Marvin Hagler vs. Sugar Ray Leonard for the Undisputed Middleweight Championship. Leonard came out of retirement to face the fearsome Hagler. The split decision victory for Leonard remains one of the most controversial results in boxing history — many at ringside and most experts believed Hagler had done enough to win.

Betekenis

One of the most controversial decisions in boxing history and a defining moment of the Four Kings era. Sugar Ray Leonard came out of a near three-year retirement to challenge the feared undisputed middleweight champion Marvin Hagler. Leonard's movement, showboating and sporadic bursts of activity convinced two of the three judges — but Hagler's consistent pressure and harder shots convinced the other. The split decision for Leonard outraged many and haunted Hagler for the rest of his life. He never fought again.
