The birth of K-1 — the tournament that defined an era of striking-based combat sports. Founded by Kazuyoshi Ishii, the K-1 World Grand Prix became the most prestigious heavyweight kickboxing competition in the world. Dutch fighters — Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts, Semmy Schilt, Ramon Dekkers — would come to dominate the tournament across its golden years.
