Rudi Lubbers
Rudi Lubbers was born on 7 May 1945 in the Netherlands. The greatest Dutch heavyweight boxer of his era and the only Dutch boxer to go the full 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali.
That fight, on 20 October 1973 in Jakarta, Indonesia, is the defining moment of his legacy. Ali won on points, but Lubbers lasted the full 15 rounds against the man widely considered the greatest boxer of all time - a feat that earned him lasting respect worldwide and made him a Dutch sporting icon.
Lubbers had a strong professional career, competing against many of the top heavyweights of the 1970s. He was Dutch Heavyweight Champion and a respected figure in European boxing. His courage and durability in the Ali fight remain the benchmark of his legacy.
