Sagat Petchyindee, born Wirun Phonphimai on 30 November 1957, is one of the most decorated Muay Thai fighters in history. Also known as Sagat Phonthawee, he is a former Muay Thai fighter, actor and trainer whose legacy spans decades.
3x Lumpinee Stadium champion, 3x Rajadamnern Stadium champion, and a world Muay Thai and kickboxing champion. His iconic high kicks and powerful strikes made him one of the most feared fighters in the game.
He is also famous internationally as the inspiration for the Street Fighter video game character Sagat - a testament to how deeply his image as a dominant, high-kicking Thai warrior penetrated popular culture.
After retiring from competition, Sagat dedicated himself to coaching, passing on the art of Muay Thai to the next generation.
