Dan Gable (born 1948) is the greatest figure in American wrestling history - an Olympic gold medallist (1972 Munich, without conceding a single point), 15-time NCAA champion as athlete and coach, and the standard by which all wrestling greatness is measured. As head coach of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes from 1976 to 1998, Gable won 15 NCAA team championships and produced 152 All-Americans, 106 NCAA champions, 45 world team members and 152 Big Ten champions. His philosophy - 'once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy' - shaped a generation of American wrestlers and MMA fighters who credit wrestling as the foundation of combat sports success.
