Gerard Gordeau was born on 30 March 1956 in the Netherlands. Kyokushin Karate champion, World Savate Champion, and one of the eight fighters who competed at UFC 1 in 1993 - one of the most historically significant events in combat sports history. At UFC 1 he reached the final, defeating Kevin Rosier and Teila Tuli before losing to Royce Gracie. His performance helped introduce a global audience to the concept of mixed martial arts and demonstrated the effectiveness of his eclectic, striking-heavy approach. As a Kyokushin competitor he won national and international titles, and his World Savate Championship demonstrates genuine versatility across multiple striking systems. He later became a coach and trainer, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of fighters. Gordeau holds an important place in MMA history simply by having been there at the very beginning.
