Marco Ruas
Marco Ruas was born on 23 January 1961 in Brazil. UFC 7 Tournament Champion and one of the true pioneers of mixed martial arts - a man who helped define what a complete fighter looks like.
He competed at UFC, PRIDE and the World Vale Tudo Championship, and developed the 'Ruas Vale Tudo' system - a complete fighting methodology combining Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and wrestling that was ahead of its time.
His technical precision and ability to fight equally well standing or on the ground made him one of the most versatile fighters of MMA's early era. His influence on training methodology and the concept of mixed martial arts as a discipline - rather than a contest between styles - helped shape the sport as it exists today.
After competing he moved into coaching, most notably as head coach of the South California Condors in the IFL.
