You can use boxing gloves in various martial arts such as kickboxing, Thai boxing, Muay Thai and of course boxing. Do you want to buy boxing gloves? Then some tips when purchasing are very useful! Also in training for traditional Budo sports such as Taekwon-do and Karate, people increasingly prefer to use boxing gloves over the use of hand protectors. For martial artists, boxing gloves are perhaps the most important item and it is therefore important to look carefully at which type of boxing glove is most suitable for you and the martial art you practice when purchasing boxing gloves.
Leather boxing gloves or artificial leather?
Anyone who wants to buy cheap boxing gloves will quickly end up with artificial leather boxing gloves. As is often the case, cheap is often expensive. You may be able to get away with it for light martial arts training once in a while, but anyone who is serious about his or her sport will benefit from boxing gloves that are sturdy and retain their good fit. Leather boxing gloves can withstand the toughest training sessions in kickboxing, boxing or other martial arts and will always provide the necessary strength. We therefore always recommend buying leather boxing gloves. So it's better to spend a little more money for good boxing gloves. After all, this is about your safety and that of your opponent or training buddy. A good choice, for example, is the XPRT boxing glove Top Gloves made of 100% genuine leather.
What size boxing glove do I need?
The size of a boxing glove is measured in Oz, the abbreviation of ounce. One ounce is approximately 28 grams. Common boxing glove sizes run from 6-20 Oz, in 2 Oz increments (so 6 Oz, 8 Oz, 10 Oz, 12 Oz, 14 Oz, 16 Oz, 18 Oz and 20 Oz). It is difficult to indicate which size boxing glove is most suitable for you, but if you follow the following guidelines, you will generally be fine.
Children's boxing gloves: 4 oz, 6 oz and 8 oz
Boxing gloves in sizes 6 oz and 8 oz are suitable for the smallest martial artists among us. This includes children aged 6 to 8 years. Of course, take a good look at your child's physique. If he or she is very small, choose 6 Oz boxing gloves. If your child is a bit larger than average, you can choose 8 oz or perhaps even 10 oz.
Junior and women's boxing gloves: 8 oz, 10 oz and 12 oz
Boys and girls from the age of 9 should opt for 8 Oz or 10 Oz boxing gloves, but here too, careful consideration should be given to physique. For (young) adult women, sizes 10 Oz and 12 Oz are generally the right size.
Men's boxing gloves: 14 oz and 16 oz
14 Oz boxing gloves are suitable for men up to about 85 kilos and slightly heavier / larger ladies. Men heavier than 85 kg choose 16 Oz gloves, although 14 Oz is also a common size for heavier men.
Heavyweights and Heavy-Hitters: 18 oz and 20 oz boxing gloves
Boxing gloves in the largest sizes are used to a lesser extent and often only as training for a match (lighter gloves are used during matches). We have the best-selling boxing gloves from Twins and XPRT in stock for this size. The Twins BGN boxing gloves in 18 oz or 20 oz are especially large in size.
Closure of boxing gloves
Roughly speaking, there are boxing gloves with a lacing and boxing gloves with a Velcro closure. Boxing gloves with a Velcro closure are generally more practical than boxing gloves with a lace closure, as with a lace closure you always need help putting them on.
Padding and protection
When buying boxing gloves, also check whether they offer sufficient protection. For example, does the boxing glove have a thumb protector that prevents the thumb from folding over? And does the boxing glove have sufficient padding to protect your hands and the body of your opponent? At Fight2Win.nl we have a wide range of boxing gloves from renowned brands such as XPRT, Twins, King Pro, Booster, Boxia Italy, Queen, Rival, Cleto Reyes and Hayabusa.
