Cleto Reyes is the most legendary boxing brand in the world. Mexico City, worn by the greatest boxers of all time and for more than 80 years the absolute benchmark in the professional boxing world.

The brand was created by Cleto Reyes Castro - born in 1920 in Mexico City, raised in poverty, and already working at the age of 12 in a factory that sewed baseball gloves. There, he discovered his passion for leatherworking and craftsmanship.

In 1945 the first professional boxing world championship was fought with Cleto Reyes gloves. Since then, the brand has grown into the undisputed choice of champions worldwide.

In 1975 his son Alberto Reyes officially registered the brand as a trademark and ushered the company into a new era with standardized quality standards and lighter, more durable leather. In 1999 Cleto Reyes passed away, but his legacy lives on in every product this family business continues to produce in Mexico City.

Cleto Reyes Castro was born in 1920 in Mexico City and grew up in bitter poverty. At the age of 12 he left school to work in a factory that sewed baseball gloves—his first introduction to leather and craftsmanship.

Homeless at a young age, Cleto slept at the workplace itself. After his workday, he continued experimenting with the sewing machines and leftover materials for hours—driven by an insatiable drive for perfection.

At the age of 16 he became fascinated by boxing. In 1938 he entered a local boxing tournament—the first and last time Cleto himself stepped into the ring. He lost, but the audience was deeply impressed by the young Mexican.

This moment changed everything. Cleto decided not to fight anymore, but to create. He devoted himself entirely to improving used boxing gloves—adjusting, testing, and refining them for years.

In 1945 world champion Ike Williams was the first professional boxer to wear Cleto Reyes gloves during a world title fight. A legend was born.

The most iconic moment in the history of Cleto Reyes took place in 1978. During the legendary match "Thrilla in Manila" refused to wear Muhammad Ali the official sponsor's gloves. He swore by his trusted Cleto Reyes—and had his trainer remove the tape covering the logo during the bout, so that the famous Cleto Reyes logo was visible to the whole world.

During his very last match against Leon Spinks, Ali also wore Cleto Reyes boxing gloves. He won and reclaimed his heavyweight world title.
