Ever since the first boxing gloves were created, there was always a fundamental design flaw. Specifically, the spot where the punching portion of the glove met the wrist shaft was never precisely aligned with the boxer's wrist.

Coaches therefore had to lace the gloves above that spot and apply tape to secure the glove securely around the wrist and provide much-needed wrist support.

That's why Rival has revised the design and assembly of its gloves. Inspired by the RS1 and by shortening the glove body and raising the cuff, the Angled Lace Track—with a 15-degree angle—was born.

This innovative, creative, and logical design ensures that the glove fits snugly around the boxer's wrist when laced, for a perfect anatomical fit and the desired wrist support!

Rival Boxing pays attention to the smallest details in ergonomics and anatomy. For example, some of their gloves feature a 15-degree wrist angle, so it follows the natural angle of a boxer's hands. With this detail in mind, Rival incorporated the conical design into the gloves.

Look at the back of your hand: you'll see that the line from the top of your pinky to your wrist is at an angle, and from your wrist to your forearm, there's another angle. Unlike most other manufacturers, Rival takes this into account in the design of its gloves. Because the wrist is narrower than the cuff that wraps around the forearm, Rival gloves fit more securely on a boxer's wrist, ensuring maximum comfort, stability, and performance!

This principle forms the basis of our design philosophy and ensures that Rival Boxing Gear pays special attention to every aspect of every new idea – whether it's the correct anatomical fit for our RNFL groin guard or gloves like the RB5 punching pads that fit securely so you can make a perfect fist.

After tying gloves thousands of times during his 40 years in the sport, and after looking at the various lacing systems of training gloves throughout history, Russ began to realize that there was not only a pattern, but a reason and logic behind the way gloves were tied.

When Rival developed the very first sparring glove, Russ (CEO and founder of Rival) wanted to implement some very important things.

He wanted to create a glove that:

1. would perform as well, or even better, than any other sparring glove on the market.

1. could be used round after round by top professionals with complete confidence.

1. would last longer than anything they had ever used before.

1. would incorporate never-before-seen technology and design that Russ had envisioned for at least 15 years.

Thus, the "ERGO LACE TRACK SYSTEM" was born. By using a deep, crisscross pattern around the wrist and an ergonomically correct 15-degree angle at the wrist, we created the perfect fit for lace-up shoes while simultaneously concealing the laces.

This paved the way for the birth of Rival's very first sparring glove, the RS1.

This concept was so successful that our entire high-end line is built around this outstanding design.

The pinnacle of this came a few years later with the introduction of the "Angled Lace Track" in professional fighting gloves. Since then, we've also applied the "Angled Lace Track" to the RS100 sparring glove and even modified the way we use the "Angled Design" on our Velcro gloves.

All these designs are Rival inventions and our own original concepts. These elements have become industry standards, as more and more brands try to enter the market with the same ideas Rival developed over 20 years ago.

Innovation is always at the heart of Rival Boxing. In fact, our entry into the market was based on a revolutionary concept that set us apart from the rest.

Nearly twenty years later, Rival's vision remains unchanged. Take, for example, the development of the Ergo Strap System.

Before Rival Boxing introduced this system, most hook and loop boxing gloves used a conventional 2- or 3-inch strap to secure the glove.

This strap did little more than that, offering no wrist support or stability. With a little thought, a simple innovation emerged; Rival Boxing redefined what "normal" was.

The key to the Ergo Strap System's success lies in its simplicity: a conventional, uniform-width strap was replaced by a wider strap on the palm side of the wrist, measuring 10 cm at its widest point. This provides greater comfort, stability, and wrist support. It has since become an industry standard.

The RS100 sparring glove is one of Rival's showpieces, thanks in part to the innovative and ingenious Ergonomic True Fist Construction system.

Intelli-Shock D3O™ is the world’s best shock absorbing padding.

Rival was the first, and to this day the only, company in the boxing and MMA world to use it.

This incredible material has been a staple in some of our headguards and boxing gloves for over a decade.

How effective is Intelli-Shock? Well, with about 6mm (a quarter inch) or 3mm (an eighth of an inch) of Intelli-Shock padding, you get the same protection as with about 25mm (an inch) of other padding.

This is because it uses Intelligent Shock Absorption™, a patented shock-absorbing material developed with intelligent molecules.

At low speeds, the molecules in D3O™ move freely, making it soft and flexible, while at high speeds the molecules click together, creating an excellent shock absorber.

Rival believes the ingenious parabolic design of the RPM5 punching pads is the key to their popularity in the combat sports world.

These cushions resemble a satellite dish – the unique and original parabolic design has a curved front and a curved back that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.

When you wear these pads, the parabolic design acts like a catching glove, allowing you to absorb the punches perfectly.

The cushions are made of thin, hard, high-density foam and reduce the impact on your elbows and shoulders.

When it became popular to make punching pads with a curved front, Rival Boxing quickly realized that this created an empty space between the wrist and the punching pad.

As a result, your arm and wrist did not receive the necessary support when hit.

The solution to this problem? Rival designed the Wedge – a high-density foam piece that fits snugly in the space between the pad and your wrist, allowing you to better stabilize and control the pad.

When you are hit, the Wedge absorbs the impact of the punch and also prevents the punching pad from shifting, giving you the stability and support you need.

With gloves without laces, the wrist is often the weakest and most vulnerable part of the glove.

That's a problem if you want to prevent unnecessary strain on your wrist. Hence the Wrist Bolt!

With this innovation, Rival has extended the shaft of the glove and made it extend higher than where the wrist – and most gloves – normally end.

This design – combined with the use of high-density foam – ensures that with Rival gloves with Wrist Bolt you get the maximum wrist support and protection that this type of construction has to offer.

When Rival Boxing was founded, it was essential that they offer products, designs, innovations and technologies never before seen in the boxing world.

Before Rival's invention of the Wrist Lock, most hook-and-loop gloves on the market had only a simple flap that offered little wrist support and therefore hardly replicated the experience of a traditional lace-up shoe.

Developing a hook-and-loop system that could match the beauty and simplicity of a lace-up shoe was a huge challenge. That's where the Wrist Lock system came in.

When Rival produced their very first punching bag glove, the RB1 – a hugely popular glove that has remained virtually unchanged since its introduction in 2003 – it was not only the first time a high-end, professional glove was made without leather, but also the first time the revolutionary Wrist Lock system was incorporated into the design.

When designing the glove, Rival founder and CEO Russ Anber drew on his years of experience in the gym to create a Velcro closure that closely resembled a traditional laced glove in terms of security, stability, and support. The simplicity and efficiency of the design revolutionized the industry.

The Wrist Lock system consists of a hook-and-loop closure with a piece of webbing threaded through a polypropylene loop. By pulling on the loop, a fighter can tighten the glove evenly on both sides and secure it as tightly as needed around the wrist, ensuring maximum support, wrist stability, and comfort.

True to the Rival Boxing philosophy, we continually strive for evolution, improvement and innovation.

Our years of experience "on the playing field" motivate us to go the extra mile and develop products that revolutionize the industry; hence the development of the Wrist Lock 2 system.

Inspired by the success of its big brother, the Original Wrist Lock, Rival has taken its innovative thinking to the next level.

Instead of sticking to a one-dimensional fit, Rival invented the double V-shaped band.

Using a loop on both the thumb side and the opposite side of the glove, the Wrist Lock 2 ensures that both sides of the glove, from the thumb to the cuff, are pressed evenly when the strap is fastened. This is similar to applying tape to the cuff of a professional boxing glove.

Rival Boxing is confident that this system replicates the comfort and stability of a fully laced boxing glove as closely as possible in a Velcro glove.
