MMA gloves weight: 4 oz and 7 oz

The gloves for Mixed Martial Arts come in two types (weights). These are 4 oz MMA gloves and 7 oz MMA gloves. The main difference is the thickness of the padding.

4 oz are really thin gloves used in professional matches and have minimal padding. Simply put, they offer much less protection and hit harder.

The 7 oz gloves have thicker padding and are therefore more commonly used for training.

If you want to play it safe and also use the gloves for regular training, choose 7 oz MMA gloves with thicker padding. The thicker padding provides more cushioning and protection for yourself, but especially for your opponent or training partner.

What size MMA gloves do I need?

Besides the difference in weight, MMA glove sizes are also expressed from S to XL. These are almost always adult sizes, so most women will fit an S or M, and most men—depending on their hand size—a M, L, or XL.

Depending on your age and hand circumference, you will need to choose the size that fits your hands best. For personal advice, it’s best to visit our showroom so you can try on the gloves.
