All about Thai pads & pao – from lightweight to heavyweight

Thai pads are the essential training tool for anyone who wants to kick, knee, and elbow with full power – indispensable in any serious kickboxing or Muay Thai gym.

At Fight2Win you’ll find the right model for every level, from a reliable entry-level pad to the Twins TKP used by professional trainers worldwide.

Below you’ll find an explanation of the different types of Thai pads, how to choose the right size and weight, which brands we carry, and how to properly maintain your pads. For children, beginners, advanced athletes, and professionals – in leather and skintex, in medium and large sizes.

Thai pads for powerful kicks, knees, and elbows

Thai pads belong in every serious gym where training focuses on hard kicks and power kicks. The best arm pads, such as the Twins TKP, can absorb kicks from even the biggest heavyweights—including fighters of the caliber of Alex Pereira, Jamal Ben Saddik, or Rico Verhoeven.

The difference from punching mitts is fundamental: while punching mitts are primarily designed for punches and speed work, Thai pads are built for maximum impact and power. Their elongated shape protects the trainer’s entire forearm, while the thick foam padding absorbs hard kicks without risk of injury.

At Fight2Win, you’ll find Thai pads from Twins Special, Booster, Fairtex, King Pro Boxing, XPRT, and Hayabusa —brands proven at the highest level. From lightweight models for extended use to the heaviest professional arm pads for the most powerful kickboxers and Muay Thai fighters.

Thai pads are elongated pads held by a trainer during a training session. The exterior is made of leather, synthetic leather, or microfiber, while the interior consists of thick foam padding that absorbs hard impact without risk of injury to the trainer.

They are designed for cross-kicks, high kicks, knee strikes, and elbow strikes —techniques that generate more power than punching mitts or kicking shields can absorb. With the better models in our range, you can kick with full force without risking injury to the trainer or fighter.

Thai pads are used both for one-on-one training sessions and in group training sessions involving multiple practitioners. At Fight2Win, we have weighed all the arm pads in our range and listed their weight in the size chart for each product. en vermeld in de maattabel per product.

Size, weight and ergonomics – choosing the right Thai pad

Thai pads are available in medium and large sizes. Most models cover the trainer's entire forearm. Twins Special is the only brand in our range to offer a choice between a slightly smaller and a larger model (TKP) — a matter of personal preference and the weight you want to carry.

Weight is an important factor with Thai pads. Lighter models such as the King Pro Revo KP are comfortable during extended use — the trainer gets tired less quickly.

Heavier models generally offer more stability and shock absorption when handling the hardest kicks. However, Thai pads are not intended for hours of continuous use like punching mitts, so weight is less decisive than with smaller pads.

Ergonomics is where the better models stand out most. Good Thai pads have an ergonomic cushion on which the trainer's forearms rest and are well protected against heavy impact. Almost all high-quality models are also slightly curved — this distributes the impact of hard kicks more effectively and prevents the pad from breaking in the middle during intensive use.

Handles and closures vary greatly in build quality. Almost all Thai pads have a grip bar and multiple hook-and-loop closures. On cheaper models, this is the first component to fail — among the brands in our range, it is reinforced as standard.

Thai pads in all colors and styles

The Twins TKP is available in black and white and black and gray—the most requested color combinations for professional gyms. Booster offers several models in various color schemes, especially classic black and neutral designs.

Fairtex FXB-KP, XPRT V4 Full-Force and Hayabusa PTS3 are available in the most requested colors. King Pro Revo KP is available in the standard design and the King Pro color scheme.

Thai pads are available in leather and Skintex (synthetic leather). Leather models such as the Twins TKP are more durable and develop a more beautiful patina with use, but require slightly more maintenance. Skintex models are easier to maintain and often lighter.

The benefits of training with Thai pads

Training with classic Thai pads offers benefits that no other training tool—such as smaller pads or a punching bag—can fully replace:

  • Training at full power - with good Thai pads, the fighter can use maximum power without risking injury to the trainer
  • Maximum protection for the holder - the elongated shape and thick padding protect the entire forearm
  • Suitable for kicks, knees, and elbows - one training tool for all power techniques
  • Realistic simulation - the trainer can move and position themselves like a real opponent
  • Group training possible - multiple practitioners can take turns working with the same pads

In short: every serious kickboxing trainer should have a set of Thai pads. For children, beginners, advanced practitioners, and professionals - Fight2Win has the right model for every level.

Maintenance and lifespan of Thai pads

Thai pads are an investment that will last for many years with proper care.

Wipe your pads after every training session with a damp cloth and let them dry completely before storing them. Leather models such as the Twins TKP and Fairtex FXB-KP should be periodically treated with a mild leather cleaner or conditioner to keep the material supple. Skintex models such as the Booster and the King Pro series are easier to maintain and more resistant to moisture.

Regularly check the hook-and-loop fasteners and grip bar for wear and tear—these are the parts most exposed to stress. Store your Thai pads not in a closed sports bag and the not in direct sunlight to prevent discoloration and drying out of the material.
