Punching mitts are the most versatile choice for boxing, kickboxing, and MMA. Kicking shields are ideal for group training and beginners still working on their precision, but advanced users also train intensively with them. Super Pro, Booster CKS, and King Pro CKS Pro are the standard choices in our range.

Punching shields are perfect for body techniques and strength training. The Rival RPS7 is the most versatile model—round, light, and available in five colors. The Winning CM-85 is the Japanese top model for the demanding trainer. Twins PML and Cleto Reyes Round Punch are the leather alternatives.

Focus pads, floppy mitts, and target paddles are the choice when speed and reaction are central. The Winning CM-15 and Rival Power RPDL are the top models. Cleto Reyes, Hayabusa, and Adidas complete the range.

Training sticks are ideal if the trainer does not want to absorb punches and wants to focus on speed, timing, and distance. The Winning CM-25 is completely handmade in Japan and the absolute top model. King Pro Boxing Revo and Hayabusa are the more accessible alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions — Pads & mitts

Why are some punching mitts smaller than others?

Some punching mitts, especially focus mitts or hook and jab pads, are smaller than regular punching mitts.

These pads are smaller because they are designed to improve a boxer's speed, precision, and accuracy, rather than just absorbing powerful punches.

The smaller size forces the boxer to focus on hitting a smaller target. This, in turn, helps refine their technique, precision, and reaction time.

Benefits of small punching mitts (micro pads):

  • Focus and accuracy: smaller punching mitts, such as micro focus mitts, require the boxer to be more precise with their punches. This helps develop better accuracy and timing.
  • Speed training: the smaller surface of the micro punching mitts allows for faster punch combinations, helping the boxer improve overall speed and reaction time.
  • Less padding: compared to regular and larger punching mitts, micro focus mitts generally have less padding. This means the trainer holding the pads expends less energy keeping them up and can focus more on the actual training.
  • Specific drills: smaller punching mitts are often used for specific drills aimed at speed and accuracy. Larger pads are more suitable for developing power and absorbing heavy blows.
What is the difference between punching mitts, focus pads, Thai pads, and kicking shields?

Punching mitts, also known as focus pads , are compact pads that are held by a trainer during a training session. The terms punching mitts and focus pads are used interchangeably. However, in our view, there are subtle differences between them, which is why we have made a distinction on our website. Punching mitts are mainly intended for punches and punching techniques.

Thai pads, also known as kickpads or pao, are larger pads that are held by a trainer to practice both punches and kicks.

Punching shields are usually round, large pads that the trainer or partner holds in front of the body. These are especially suitable for all kinds of punching techniques, including hooks, liver shots, and uppercuts.

Kicking shields are the really large pads for punching and kicking. They are ideal for beginners and children who, to put it bluntly, are not yet very accurate. They are also very suitable for advanced users, as these pads allow them to practice their technique with full power .

What are the advantages and disadvantages of light or heavy punching mitts?

The weight of punching mitts is not necessarily a matter of build quality. There are some very light pads (such as the Rival Airpads) that are extremely durable.

Light punching mitts are especially comfortable for trainers during prolonged use, but usually a bit of weight is also desirable and the heavier pads tend to be a bit sturdier.

However, this is not always the case and it varies by brand and price range. We have weighed all the punching mitts in our assortment and added this information in a size chart with the relevant product! bij het betreffende product!

What are micro pads?

Micro pads are extra small punching mitts.

These are smaller and lighter than regular punching mitts, and are ideal for very fast pad work.

In general, these are used by advanced fighters.

Is Rival's Super Rich Microfiber as strong as genuine leather?

Yes. This material has been proven to be at least as strong as real leather. Moreover, it retains colors better and is less prone to tearing and temperature fluctuations.

What can I use punching mitts for?

Punching mitts are mainly used for practicing fast punches, combinations, and defensive techniques.

They are designed to help the practitioner develop speed, precision, reflexes, conditioning, and coordination. Punching mitts are also portable and easy to use, making them ideal for one-on-one training sessions.

Using punching mitts:

  • Improve precision and technique
  • Improve speed and reflexes
  • Improve strength and endurance
  • Improve guard and defense
  • Simulate realistic combat scenarios in a safe way
  • Fewer injuries
What are the benefits of focus pads?

With small (light) focus pads, you can train hand and foot combinations very quickly and easily.

Especially in ITF Taekwon-do, the (usually round) focus pads are an indispensable training tool.

They are extremely suitable for drills to improve awareness, conditioning, or precision.

How do you hold focus pads?

A major advantage of focus pads compared to regular punching mitts is that you can almost always hold them in two ways: with your palm facing up or your palm facing down.

This offers many more possibilities to comfortably demonstrate techniques in the right way and without the risk of twisting or bruising your wrists.

For example, you can hold the focus pads extended in front of you, against your body, or next to your head (for high roundhouse kicks).

Focus pads usually have both a handle and a strap that your wrist/forearm goes through.

What are Thai pads used for?

Thai pads, also known as kick pads or pao, are larger, elongated pads held by a trainer to practice punches, but mainly powerful kicks .

They are usually made of thick foam and have a sturdy handle on the back for the trainer to hold.

Thai pads are designed to help practitioners practice powerful kicks, such as cross-kicks, high kicks, knee strikes, and elbow strikes.
