Frequently Asked Questions — Gel-wraps

What is polycotton?

Polycotton is a fabric made from a blend of cotton and polyester fibers. The fiber ratio can vary, but often 80% polyester and 20% cotton are used in handwraps. In our karate and taekwon-do uniforms, the ratio is usually 65% polyester and 35% cotton.

Polycotton combines the advantages of both materials: the breathability of cotton and the durability and quick-drying properties of polyester.

Why is polycotton used?

  • More durable: polyester makes the fabric stronger and more resistant to wear than pure cotton.
  • Wrinkle-resistant: polycotton is much less prone to wrinkling than 100% cotton. This is especially convenient for martial arts uniforms as it requires less ironing.
  • Quick-drying: polyester fibers dry faster than cotton, which is useful for sportswear and sports equipment.
  • Economical: polycotton is cheaper than 100% cotton.
  • Versatile: polycotton is suitable for various applications, such as clothing and handwraps.
  • More elastic: handwraps are more comfortable with a bit of stretch. 100% cotton has no stretch at all.

What is the background of the XPRT brand?

Are gel-wraps good to replace handwraps?

Yes.

Gel-wraps are a good alternative to classic handwraps, bandages, or wraps. Gelwraps are a type of inner gloves usually with extra padding on the knuckles.

Can I wash gel-wraps?

Yes.

The best way to wash Gel-wraps is by placing them in a laundry bag or bra net and washing them in the washing machine at 30°C or lower. Hand washing is actually even better.

It is important to fasten the Velcro before washing to prevent it from sticking to other clothes or to itself. After washing, let the Gel-wraps air dry naturally. Do not put them in the dryer, as they may shrink and wrinkle unnecessarily.

  • Partially roll up the Gel-wraps and place them in a laundry bag or bra net.
  • Wash the Gel-wraps in the washing machine at a maximum of 30°C or hand wash them.
  • Let the Gel-wraps air dry, preferably hanging for a long time.
  • Do not put the Gel-wraps in the dryer.

Extra tips:

  • Wash the Gel-wraps regularly (after every training) to keep them hygienically clean and fresh.
  • You can optionally use a mild detergent, but rinse the Gel-wraps well to avoid soap residue.
  • Let the Gel-wraps dry completely after washing before using them again.
What is neoprene?

Neoprene is a synthetic rubber material.

It is widely used because it is a versatile, safe, and durable material. Neoprene was originally developed to replace rubber and therefore has the same positive properties: flexible and sturdy at the same time.

Neoprene is used in many products such as gaskets, wetsuits, laptop sleeves. In the martial arts world, among other applications, it is used in knuckle guards, gelwraps, elbow pads, and knee pads.
