Winning offers two versions of the CPS-500 groinguard:

Winning groinguards are specifically designed for classic boxing. The CPS-500 provides maximum groin protection for the boxing stance—but is not suitable for kickboxing or thai boxing.
With kickboxing and thai boxing , you need a smaller groinguard that allows kicks and does not restrict leg movement at all. The Winning CPS-500 is too large for this—and also offers no option for kicking techniques, which is required in these sports.
For kickboxing and thai boxing, we recommend a compact groinguard specifically designed for these sports.
After every training session: air out the groinguard air it out before storing it. Never store it while damp.
Cleaning: wipe the outside with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh cleaning products—they can damage the synthetic leather.
Drying: always air-dry, never in a dryer or on a direct heat source.
Storage: store the groinguard in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.

This depends on the brand and model. You can almost never wash the cup (the hard part), nor do you need to. Most regular groinguards are built into a kind of sports brief (jockstrap). You can remove the cup and wash the brief.
The larger kidney and groinguards (No-Foul) designed for boxing obviously cannot be washed in a washing machine either. This really shouldn’t be necessary. You can simply wipe them down and dry them to keep them fresh.
Naturally, you can’t wash the steel groinguards either. The metal is not designed to withstand this.
Is a groinguard mandatory?
Yes, usually.
A groinguard is often mandatory or recommended. For boxing, kickboxing, and karate training, for example, it is recommended. In krav maga and self-defense systems, it is mandatory. The area protected by the groinguard is, of course, highly vulnerable to injury.
During exams and competitions, a groinguard is always mandatory for both men and women.
