Polycotton is a fabric made from a blend of cotton and polyester fibers. The fiber ratio can vary, but often 80% polyester and 20% cotton are used in handwraps. In our karate and taekwon-do uniforms, the ratio is usually 65% polyester and 35% cotton.

Polycotton combines the advantages of both materials: the breathability of cotton and the durability and quick-drying properties of polyester.

Why is polycotton used?

• More durable: polyester makes the fabric stronger and more resistant to wear than pure cotton. 
• Wrinkle-resistant: polycotton is much less prone to wrinkling than 100% cotton. This is especially convenient for martial arts uniforms as it requires less ironing.
• Quick-drying: polyester fibers dry faster than cotton, which is useful for sportswear and sports equipment. 
• Economical: polycotton is cheaper than 100% cotton. 
• Versatile: polycotton is suitable for various applications, such as clothing and handwraps.
• More elastic: handwraps are more comfortable with a bit of stretch. 100% cotton has no stretch at all.

What is the background of the XPRT brand?

Hayabusa (pronounced Ha-Ja-Boe-Sa) is the Japanese word for peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on earth (a bird of prey recorded at over 500 km per hour in a dive). The company was founded in 2006 by Ken & Craig Clement, David Zikakis, and Luke Harris and has since literally taken off tremendously.

Hayabusa has its headquarters in Ontario (Canada) and the global distribution center in the heart of Las Vegas (United States). Not coincidentally, this is also where the biggest boxing matches and UFC events take place. Rival Boxing Gear was founded in Canada in the early 2000s and has since experienced steady growth in the world of martial arts, with a focus on classic boxing. The company was founded by Russ Anber, a prominent name in the boxing world.

Anber, a respected boxing trainer and coach, had deep knowledge of what fighters needed to improve their skills and excel in the ring. With this background and expertise, he aimed to produce high-quality gear that would meet the needs of fighters.
