Competitor of XHG10. The two XPRT headgear models compared.

XPRT has two headgear models:

Competitor – synthetic leather (PU): Entry-level model, specially designed for the youngest users. Thick padding on the chin and sides, a hook-and-loop closure at the back plus a cord across the top for an optimal fit. Lightweight, with multiple layers of high-density foam. Available in size XS – ideal for young children starting kickboxing or boxing.

XHG10 – genuine leather: The newest and most advanced model. Soft leather exterior, microfiber lining, multi-layer foam padding. Improved field of vision thanks to the streamlined design – you can see more while still being well protected. Double horizontal hook-and-loop closure plus classic lace adjustment for a precise fit. Cheekbone protectors for extra facial protection. Available in S, M, L and XL – for teenagers and adults.

The right headgear size. How to choose correctly.

Headgear should fit snugly—not tight, but without any looseness. Loose headgear shifts on impact and therefore does not provide optimal protection.

Competitor:

  • XS - for the very youngest children, up to approximately 5–7 years old. The hook-and-loop closure and cord make the fit adjustable.

XHG10:

  • S - small heads, teenagers, and lightweight adults
  • M - average-sized adults
  • L - large adults
  • XL - larger heads

The XHG10 has a double hook-and-loop closure that allows for quick adjustments—ideal if multiple people use the headgear or if you want to put it on and take it off quickly.

Leather or synthetic. Materials and protection compared.

Competitor (synthetic leather / PU): Lightweight and affordable. Multiple layers of high-density foam provide excellent shock absorption. The chin, ears, and cheekbones are well protected. A great choice for children who are just starting.

XHG10 (genuine leather): Soft leather exterior—more durable and gentler on the skin than synthetic leather. Microfiber inner lining for comfort and moisture wicking. Multi-layer foam padding for maximum shock absorption. Cheekbone protectors provide extra protection for the vulnerable facial bones.

The main difference is the field of vision: the XHG10 has a streamlined design that lets you see more while sparren—a major advantage for advanced users.

For kickboxing, boxing, and more. XPRT headgear for every sport.

XPRT headgear is suitable for all stand-up combat sports involving sparring:

  • Kickboxing - the primary sport; both models are suitable for this
  • Boxing - the XHG10 is also suitable for boxers who train for competition
  • Thai boxing / Muay Thai - chin and cheekbone protection is essential during Thai sparring
  • Krav Maga - the Competitor is popular in children's Krav Maga classes

By target group:

  • Children (beginners) - Competitor in XS
  • Teenagers and adults (recreationalists) - XHG10 in S or M
  • Advanced and competition athletes - XHG10 for its improved field of vision and leather exterior

Enjoy your headgear for longer. Maintenance and care.

A headgear absorbs a lot of sweat and requires regular maintenance.

After every training session:

  • Leave the headgear open to dry in a ventilated place
  • Use a disinfectant spray on the inside to prevent bacterial growth and odors
  • Never store it in a sports bag while it is still damp

Exterior:

  • Synthetic leather (Competitor) - wipe with a damp cloth
  • Genuine leather (XHG10) - wipe with a damp cloth and periodically treat with a leather cleaner

Inner lining (XHG10 - microfiber):

  • Wipe with a damp cloth; do not submerge
  • The microfiber inner lining dries quickly and is easy to keep clean

Velcro:

  • Periodically check the Velcro fastening for wear - a properly secured helmet is essential for safety

Frequently asked questions — XPRT headgear

What is the background of the XPRT brand?

The story of XPRT Fight Gear begins in 2005. An enthusiastic martial artist and entrepreneur has been dreaming for years of a shop full of the finest fighting gear, available and accessible to everyone.

Through personal experiences in the form of training camps, seminars, competitions, and research, he gained a clear vision of how to offer martial arts, combat sports, and martial arts equipment to a broader audience in the new millennium.

With extensive experience in Thai boxing, boxing, karate, and especially ITF Taekwon-do, Fight2Win takes its first steps toward a complete product range. Initially, this consisted exclusively of ITF Taekwon-do uniforms and safety equipment under the Taekwon-do.nl brand and website.

Then came the slogan: Fight2WinAnd eventually, with the help of other martial artists and graphic designers, a logo and name emerged for a groundbreaking and affordable martial arts brand: XPRT Fight Gear!

What is the benefit of good headgear?

Martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, boxing, kickboxing and MMA all involve a degree of contact with practitioners' heads. Wearing a good headgear in these martial arts is essential for the safety of the practitioner.

We especially want to emphasize that good headgear not only provides good protection, but also stays securely in place and does not get in the way!

Features of headgear:

  • Protection against head injuries
  • Eye protection
  • Increased confidence
  • Training without holding back
  • Contributes to a culture of safety (awareness of important protective equipment)

Why do some headgear have an open chin?

Maximum visibility, minimal obstruction.

A headgear in combat sports such as boxing often has an open chin to improve the fighter's comfort and mobility.

This design allows fighters to see all incoming punches, especially hooks and uppercuts, without being hindered by thick padding.

The open design also allows for better head movement and countering opportunities during sparring sessions and training.

Some key benefits of open-chin headgear:

  • Improved visibility: an open-face design provides a wider and clearer field of vision, which is crucial for anticipating punches and reacting quickly, especially during training or sparren.
  • Improved mobility: the smaller amount of padding around the chin and cheeks allows for smoother head movement, enabling fighters to evade punches more effectively.
  • Focus on countering: by maintaining a clear view of their opponent, fighters can better anticipate and counter their attacks.
  • Fewer restrictions: open headgear is generally preferred for its greater comfort and breathability during intense training sessions.

Please note:

While open headgear prioritizes visibility and agility, it naturally provides less protection for the face, particularly the chin and nose, compared with headgear featuring a face bar or cheek protection.

However, the open design is often preferred because it allows fighters to sparren and train without feeling overly restricted in their freedom of movement. Many fighters are not fans of overly "bulky" protective gear anyway.

Why do some headgear have a closed chin?

Maximum protection.

Headgear with a closed chin and cheek protection provides (after headgear with a face bar) maximum protection by covering the entire face, including the chin, cheeks, and forehead.

This headgear design minimizes the risk of cuts, bruises, and swelling from strikes, particularly to the chin, eyes, and cheeks.

While open headgear prioritizes visibility, headgear with a closed chin prioritizes injury prevention, especially during intensive and hard training or sparring sessions.

Benefits of headgear with a closed chin:

  • Comprehensive protection: headgear with a closed chin and cheek protector provides comprehensive protection against punches and kicks, including strikes aimed at the chin, jaw, and cheeks.
  • Injury prevention: by covering the chin, this headgear helps prevent injuries such as cuts, swelling, and potential concussions caused by strikes.
  • Suitable for intensive training: this type of headgear is particularly popular during intensive sparring or training sessions.
  • Visibility trade-off: although closed-chin headgear may slightly limit overall visibility compared with open-face designs, it offers many fighters a good balance between protection and visibility.

Types of headgear:

There are several types of headgear, including fully open-face headgear, open-chin headgear, closed-chin headgear with cheek protection, and full protection with a face bar.

Who is the XPRT Competitor Headgear intended for?

The XPRT Competitor is specially designed for the youngest children and is available in size XS. Children can train safely with it thanks to the thick padding on the chin, ears, and cheekbones and the lightweight construction that does not weigh the head down.
