Origin of the Hayabusa brand

Hayabusa (pronounced Ha-Ja-Boe-Sa) is the Japanese word for peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on earth (a bird of prey clocked at over 500 km per hour in a dive). The company was founded in 2006 by Ken & Craig Clement, David Zikakis, and Luke Harris and has since literally taken off enormously.

The original Hayabusa range consisted of a series of fighting gloves, rash guards, and the famous iconic fight shorts. These were the basic necessities for the gladiators of modern times: MMA fighters.

These products were developed from a philosophy that the products were suitable and met the needs of a new era of modern athletes.

Hayabusa has always held a research-based approach in high regard when conceptualizing, designing, testing, and producing their products. The desire to develop materials at the highest possible scientifically tested level is the driving force and engine behind the company.

Continuous improvement

Hayabusa wants to offer the best materials in terms of comfort, fit, anatomy, and even more importantly: performance and safety! A martial artist is constantly improving and developing themselves. This is a Japanese philosophy also applied in business management and at Hayabusa: Kaizen. This is the concept of “continuous improvement.”

Hayabusa has its headquarters in Ontario (Canada) and the global distribution center in the heart of Las Vegas (United States). Not coincidentally, this is also where the biggest boxing matches and UFC galas take place.

Hayabusa also has two exclusive contracts with independent sports centers in Canada, where all Hayabusa products are extensively tested.

Research & Development

Hayabusa Fightwear Inc. has funded various studies at major universities in the United States and North America. At these universities, research was conducted together with independent research centers into the safety and quality of materials used in the sports industry.

Various papers, essays, and presentations are the result of these extensive studies that have provided useful data. Hayabusa’s goal with these studies has been to develop materials that maximally protect athletes at both amateur and professional levels and help them achieve their goals.
