Benefits of pad training

Benefits of pad training

The benefits of pad training are actually too many to mention. But let's start at the beginning. Pad training, what is it actually? It is a form of training in kickboxing where you train your punches and kicks one-on-one. Pads are used for this. This means that the person holding the pads does not suffer from his or her hands and wrists. Today we are going to talk about the benefits that pad training has for you.

Benefits of pads

  • train reflexes
  • good condition training
  • improvement of techniques
  • improving your defense

Training reflexes:

One of the great advantages of training on the pads is that your reflexes are improved. If someone gives you the order to perform a certain technique on his command, you have to react quickly. This ensures that when you spar, you can give the punch faster and react faster to the command of your trainer in the ring. In addition, your punches and kicks become faster and harder by training on the pads. The more often you practice a certain technique, the better you will become at performing that technique.

Improving fitness:

Training on the pads is also a good fitness training. If your trainer is going to pad you at speed and want you to go very fast with combinations, with short rest periods, you will build up a very good fitness for kickboxing matches. Padsing is also one of the best training that all kickboxers use for this reason. Padsing in this way gives you a very realistic training that simulates a kickboxing match very well. In the ring you also get short rest periods, and you come into many situations where you go faster than you are comfortable with.

Improving your techniques

Pads training is the best training to improve your techniques because you are constantly being watched by a trainer. He/she pays attention to whether your technique is good, your hands are where they should be and whether your leg position is good. Constantly hearing what needs to be improved will only make you better. In addition, you have another advantage to pads training that a punching bag training does not have, and that is that punching on the pads is nicer than against the punching bag.

Pad training is also one of the best ways to practice and improve your techniques. You learn so much from pad training because you have someone constantly telling you what you are doing wrong, for example that you should keep your hands up. This makes you pay more attention to what you are doing wrong and where you can/should improve. In addition, your punches and kicks become harder and faster through pad training. For example, the more often you throw a right jab, the harder it becomes.

Improving your defense:

If you have someone holding the pads for you, that person can correct you on your guard by hitting you with the pads. This not only trains your guard/how quickly you pull your hands back, but also your reaction time so that you can see punches coming. If you often get punches in the middle of a combination to your head, and you have to block them during your combination. Then you train your reaction time. Floyd Mayweather JR does these kinds of exercises a lot during his pads training. You can also practice dodging while padding! Have your training partner hit you back calmly after and/or during a combination on the pads. This forces you to dodge his attack. This makes the training more realistic and more competition-oriented. In a real fight, you will of course also get punches back. So you have to practice dodging these punches, because if you do this, you will learn to see those punches coming.
