Should I buy a leather or synthetic leather boxing glove?
The difference between leather and imitation leather is not easy to see with the naked eye. An imitation leather boxing glove feels a bit plastic but is perfect for children who are starting kickboxing and are not sure whether they want to continue. The advantage is that imitation leather boxing gloves are cheaper than leather boxing gloves. The biggest disadvantage, however, is that imitation leather boxing gloves start to smell faster because they do not ventilate as well. There is little difference in terms of padding and protection. We therefore recommend purchasing imitation leather boxing gloves (PU, skintex) for small children aged 5 to 8 years. At this age, they do not sweat that much yet and there is a chance that they will drop out. A good buy is, for example, the Boxing Glove Competitor V1 from XPRT Fight Gear . This is available in various colours and all (youth) sizes.
What size boxing gloves does my child need?
Boys and girls aged 5 to 7 are advised to use 6 oz gloves. Children aged 8 to 10 are advised to use 8 oz gloves. However, every child is different. For example, a 10-year-old child can be small and light for his or her age. In that case, 6 oz is better. However, a 7-year-old child can also be large for his or her age, in which case 8 oz is better. If you are really unsure about the weight, you can always visit our store in Capelle aan den IJssel. We can then try on the 6 oz and the 8 oz and see which glove fits best! By the way, we are talking about the weight of the gloves here and not so much the size. However, the weight (6 oz or 8 oz) is also decisive for the size.
Is there a thumb guard?
All boxing gloves for children that we sell are equipped with a thumb protector. This means that the thumb is attached to the rest of the glove. This prevents the thumb from hitting twice and thus prevents annoying injuries.
Is the color of the kids boxing gloves important?
The colour of the boxing gloves is very important for many children. In our shop we see many children who find the colour more important than the fit. This is of course not the correct order of importance and that is why we always try to advise children well. Fortunately we have most gloves in all colours and sizes so this does not have to be a problem. Black boxing gloves are always easier to combine with other colours of kickboxing shorts and shin guards than for example pink. Keep this in mind when purchasing a pair of boxing gloves.
Should my child wear inner gloves or bandages?
Wearing inner gloves is recommended for children who sweat a lot. The sweat will get into the inner gloves and you can then put them in the wash. This will keep the gloves fresh for longer. We recommend older children to wear bandages . These provide more support and protection. It is up to the trainer to determine how or what. In our children's kickboxing sets we always include a few short bandages (if this is included in the set).
Do boxing gloves need maintenance?
The most important thing with boxing gloves is to ventilate them well. The sweat has to evaporate from the boxing gloves. If this does not happen, the boxing gloves will start to stink terribly. That is why you should always take the boxing gloves out of the sports bag after training and put them somewhere where they can dry. A good place is the garage or on the doormat. You can also lightly grease the boxing gloves twice a year with some Vaseline. You should only do this if you have leather boxing gloves.
