Boxing

Boxing, also known as Western boxing, is a wildly popular combat sport in which two people fight each other using only their fists .

In general, unless it concerns bare-knuckle matches, protective gloves , also called boxing gloves , are worn. Furthermore, bandages (bandages, hand wraps), a mouth guard, groin guard and, depending on the regulations, a head guard are usually worn.

In general, the term refers to Western boxing, but boxing techniques are used in various combat sports all over the world. Sometimes also supplemented with striking, punching and kicking techniques with the legs, knees and elbows. Think of kickboxing, Thai boxing, sanda, savate and many more exotic combat sports.

One of the greatest points in the history of modern boxing is the introduction of the "Marquess of Queensberry Rules" in 1867. This gave boxing enormous momentum and today it is even an Olympic sport and by far the most watched combat sport in the world.

Of course everyone has heard of the most famous boxers in history: Mike, Tyson, George Foreman, Robert Duran, Bep van Klaveren (we can't leave out our Dutch pride here) and of course one of the biggest celebrities ever: Cassius Clay aka Mohammed Ali!
