Boxing

Boxing, also known as Western boxing or Western Boxing, is an extremely popular combat sport in which two people fight each other using only their fists.

Used equipment

Generally, unless it concerns bare-knuckle matches, participants wear protective gloves, also called boxing gloves. Additionally, they usually wear handwraps, a mouthguard, a groinguard, and, depending on the rules, headgear.

Generally, the term refers to Western boxing, but worldwide boxing techniques are used in various martial arts. Sometimes these are supplemented with striking, punching, and kicking techniques using legs, knees, and elbows. Examples include kickboxing, thai boxing, sanda, savate, and many other exotic martial arts.

Introduction of rules

One of the biggest milestones in the history of modern boxing was the introduction of the "Marquess of Queensberry Rules" in 1867. This accelerated boxing tremendously, and today it is even Olympic and by far the most watched combat sport in the world.

Famous boxers

Of course, everyone has heard of the most famous boxers in history: Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Robert Duran, Bep van Klaveren (we cannot leave out our Dutch pride here), and of course one of the greatest celebrities ever: Cassius Clay, also known as Muhammad Ali!
