Eskrima (Philippines), Kali, and Arnis are collective names for the Filipino martial arts. These arts originated centuries ago and have continually evolved to serve their purpose in (tribal) warfare.
Through Eskrima, the eskrimador learns to fight and defend themselves both armed and unarmed. An important weapon for the eskrimador is the baton. This is a rattan stick measuring 60 centimetres in length. Eskrima places a strong emphasis on drills, and it is important to perform the exercises very smoothly. Bruce Lee, among others, found a great deal of inspiration in this Eastern martial art.
