Thai boxing

Thai boxing, also known as Muay Thai , is a combat sport that combines standing fighting techniques with techniques and throws from a clinching position. The Thai martial art is extremely popular worldwide and is called the art of 8 limbs. This nickname is derived from the techniques performed with the fists, elbows, knees and shins.

During the 20th and 21st centuries, Thai boxing was put on the international map by Westerners who started competing in the International Kickboxing circuit and various MMA organizations.

Muay Thai originally developed from traditional Muay Boran. A practitioner of this brutal and tough sport is called a Nak Muay. Westerners who practice the sport in Thailand sometimes call it Nak Muay Farang: "foreign boxer". The Netherlands is known for its top fighters in kickboxing and Muay Thai.
