Joo Bang Lee

Joo Bang Lee (born 1941) is the founder and Supreme Grand Master of Hwarang-do, a comprehensive Korean martial art he co-developed with his brother Joo Sang Lee after receiving instruction from the Buddhist monk Suahm Dosa at the Suk Wang Sa temple in North Korea. Lee emigrated to the United States in 1972 and established the World Hwarang-do Association, building an international network of schools that teaches Hwarang-do's vast curriculum of over 4,000 techniques spanning striking, joint locks, throws, ground fighting and weapons. He holds the title Dojoonim - the sole inheritor and head of the Hwarang-do system.
