Lace-up gloves are used almost exclusively for sparren and competitions—not for punching bag training. Choose the weight based on your body weight and intended use:

Sparren:

• up to 70 kg - 14 oz
• 70–85 kg - 14 oz or 16 oz
• +85 kg - 16 oz or 18 oz

Competition: The weight is determined by the organization and weight class—usually 10 oz (lighter classes) or 12 oz. Always check your federation’s regulations.

10 oz: available in the Winning MS300 line—specifically for competition use in lighter weight classes.

Practical: You always need a second person to tie lace-up gloves. For solo punching bag training, hook-and-loop gloves are more practical.

Advantages of lace-up gloves:

Drawbacks of lace-up gloves:

• Assistance required - you always need a second person to tie the laces
• Slower to put on and take off - not ideal for shorter training sessions or when quickly switching between exercises

Lace-up gloves are primarily intended for professional boxers and advanced athletes who spar or box in competitions. They are also used in high-level thai boxing and kickboxing.

Thai boxing / Muay Thai - the Twins BGLL1 is particularly popular in Thai gyms. The Rival RFX Guerrero is also used in high-level thai boxing.

Not suitable for: beginners, solo bag work, or athletes without someone who can tie the laces.

After each training session:

• Leave the gloves open to dry in a well-ventilated place
• Use an antibacterial spray to prevent bacterial growth
• Use an deodorizer to help the gloves dry faster from the inside

Leather care (Cleto Reyes, Winning, Rival RFX, Twins, Di Nardo, Grant):

• Wipe with a damp cloth after use
• Periodically treat with leather grease to keep the leather supple and flexible
• Do not dry in direct sunlight—Leather dries out and cracks

Microfiber (Rival RS100, Rival Ultra RS1):

• Wipe with a damp cloth; do not immerse
• No leather grease needed

Always: use handwraps—this protects the inside of the glove and significantly extends its lifespan.
