Twins headgear - protection and comfort from Thailand

Twins headgear provide excellent protection during sparring - handmade in Thailand from high-quality synthetic leather with sturdy foam padding that effectively absorbs impacts.

The HGL3 features an open-face design with wide cheek pads and sturdy chin protection. The construction protects the most vulnerable parts of the head - cheeks, chin, and back of the head - without limiting visibility. The hook-and-loop closure at the back and the chin strap ensure a secure and stable fit during intense sparring.

The antibacterial inner surface neutralizes odors and is easy to clean. The synthetic exterior is robust and built to withstand intensive use.

Twins headgear is used by athletes at all levels - from beginners sparring for the first time to advanced kickboxers and Muay Thai fighters. The combination of good protection, comfortable fit, and durable construction makes the HGL3 a reliable choice for the gym.

Twins headgear - the HGL3 model

Fight2Win carries the Twins HGL3 model—the most popular headgear from Twins Special.

Twins HGL3 - an open-face headgear with wide cheek pads, sturdy chin protection, and a protected back. The open-face design provides a clear view and is the standard choice for sparring in kickboxing and Muay Thai. The HGL3 has a hook-and-loop closure at the back and an adjustable chin strap for a stable fit.

The foam padding is firm enough to effectively absorb impacts, yet light enough not to place unnecessary strain on the head. The synthetic leather on the outside is durable and resistant to intensive use.

The HGL3 is available in sizes S, M and L and in 3 colors: black, red, and blue.

Please note: Fight2Win exclusively carries the HGL3. Other Twins headgear models (such as the HGL4 with nose bar or the HGL8 full-face model) are not available in Europe through the distributor.

Twins headgear – choosing the right size

The Twins HGL3 headgear is available in 3 sizes: S, M, and L. Choose based on your head circumference:

S - head circumference approx. 53–55 cm. Suitable for smaller heads, women, and younger athletes.

M - head circumference approx. 56–58 cm. The most popular size, suitable for most adult women.

L - head circumference approx. 59–61 cm. The most popular men's size, suitable for most adult men.

How to measure: measure the circumference of your head at the widest point—approximately 2 cm above the eyebrows and around the back of your head. Use a measuring tape or a piece of string that you measure afterward.

Tip: Are you unsure between S and M? Choose M. The Velcro closure at the back allows some flexibility, but a size that is too small is uncomfortable and can restrict your vision. A slightly larger size is always better than one that is too small.

Twins headgear - colors and availability

The Twins HGL3 headgear is available in 3 classic colors:

Black - the most popular color. Available in S, M, and L.

White - a classic boxing color. Available in M and L.

Army green- sleek and distinctive. Available in M and L.

All three colors are available in all sizes. The colors are solid and timeless—suitable for virtually any boxing glove or kickboxing shorts.

Tip: would you like a matching set? Combine the HGL3 in the same color with the Twins BGVL3 or BGN boxing gloves and the Twins SGL7 shin guards. Fight2Win has all three available in black, white, and army green.

Twins headgear - suitable for kickboxing, Muay Thai and sparring

The Twins HGL3 is designed for sparring - controlled practice of techniques with a partner. The headgear is suitable for all martial arts where head protection is required or recommended:

Kickboxing - the HGL3 is the most widely used headgear in Dutch and Belgian kickboxing gyms. The open-face design provides clear visibility and does not restrict freedom of movement.

Muay Thai and thai boxing - the home base of Twins. The HGL3 provides the protection needed for sparring with full techniques, including knees and elbows.

MMA - the HGL3 is also used in MMA training for stand-up sparring.

Beginners - headgear is essential for anyone sparring for the first time. The HGL3 is a reliable and affordable choice for beginners who want to train seriously.

Advanced - experienced athletes also use the HGL3 daily in the gym. The combination of good protection and lightweight construction makes it suitable for intensive sparring sessions.

Twins headgear - maintenance and cleaning

The Twins HGL3 is made of synthetic leather and is easy to maintain. With proper care, the headgear remains hygienic and in good condition.

After every training session: Wipe the inside with a damp cloth to remove sweat and dirt. Then leave the headgear open and in a well-ventilated place to dry—never put it directly into a sports bag. Use a disinfectant spray to neutralize odors.

Regular maintenance: Wipe the outside with a damp cloth and a mild cleaning agent. The antibacterial inner surface can withstand regular cleaning with a damp cloth.

Velcro and chin strap: Regularly check whether the Velcro fastening at the back still holds securely. Remove lint and dust from the Velcro to maintain its grip.

What to avoid: Never wash in a washing machine. Do not dry in direct sunlight or near a heat source. Do not use harsh cleaning agents on the synthetic leather.

Frequently asked questions — Twins headgear

Where is Twins Special made?

All Twins Special products are handmade inThailand.

Collections

How does the Twins HGL3 headgear fasten?

The HGL3 features a two-part closure system: a classic lace-up closure at the top for precise fit adjustment, and an easy hook-and-loop closure at the back for quick on and off. This combination ensures a stable, anatomical fit while sparren.

Collections

Are headgear for boxing and kickboxing the same?

Yes.

You can use the same headgear for boxing, kickboxing, thai boxing, and even MMA.

Both are available with an open chin, closed chin, cheekbone protection, and face-bar protection. The choice is personal.

What size Twins headgear do I need?

Headgear usually comes in “regular” sizes, from XS to XL. This is generally based on your head circumference.

Each brand and model of headgear has a unique size chart (next to the size selector and at the bottom of the product information). This provides the best possible guideline for what we think is the best choice for you for that specific model.

In borderline cases or when in doubt, we recommend choosing a headgear size that is slightly larger. Headgear that is too small will be very uncomfortable, but don’t choose one that is too large, as you don’t want it to shift around.

What is the benefit of good headgear?

Martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, boxing, kickboxing and MMA all involve a degree of contact with practitioners' heads. Wearing a good headgear in these martial arts is essential for the safety of the practitioner.

We especially want to emphasize that good headgear not only provides good protection, but also stays securely in place and does not get in the way!

Features of headgear:

  • Protection against head injuries
  • Eye protection
  • Increased confidence
  • Training without holding back
  • Contributes to a culture of safety (awareness of important protective equipment)

Is headgear mandatory?

This depends on the rules of your gym, sport, or competition/tournament in which you participate.

In many training environments (such as a gym or club), its use is optional. However, in recent years it has increasingly become mandatory due to safety concerns and insurance company requirements.

Competitions and combat sports where headgear is mandatory:

  • WT Taekwondo (youth and adults)
  • ITF Taekwon-do (youth and adults)
  • Amateur boxing (youth and adults)
  • Kickboxing (youth up to and including 17 years old)
  • Karate (youth up to and including 13 years old)
  • Amateur Sanda/Sanshou (youth and adults)
