The color of your thai boxing short has a meaning – Thai color symbolism

In Thai culture, each color has its own symbolic meaning, rooted in Buddhist and Hindu mythology.

Red represents the god Surya and is traditionally worn by the favorites in a competition. Yellow is a sacred color associated with the beloved King Bhumibol (Rama IX), who was born on a Monday.

Pink symbolizes the god of war and represents strength and endurance.

Green refers to the Buddha and represents wisdom and harmony. Blue is the color of the underdogs and honors Queen Mother Sirikit—in Thailand, people wear blue on Fridays to honor her.

Purple represents royalty, success, and wealth. Many thai boxing shorts combine multiple colors—a deliberate blend of energies and beliefs that the fighter proudly carries into the ring.

Thai boxing shorts for Muay Thai, kickboxing, and more – versatile use

Thai boxing shorts are primarily designed for Muay Thai - Thailand's national martial art, also known as the "art of eight limbs", in which fists, elbows, knees, and legs are used. The wide cut and side split provide maximum freedom for high kicks, knee strikes, and clinch work.

They are also widely worn for kickboxing, K-1, and general martial arts. Our models are suitable for children, women, and men—from recreational athletes to competitive fighters.

Washing and caring for your Thai boxing short – how to keep it looking good

Wash your thai boxing short at a maximum of 30°C, inside out and without fabric softener. Satin and polyester fabrics are sensitive to high temperatures and may shrink or fade if washed too hot.

Always air-dry the trousers and do not use a dryer.

Shorts with embroidery, such as the Twins TTBL series featuring mythological figures, require extra care.

Wash them on a delicate cycle to protect the embroidered details. With proper care, high-quality thai boxing shorts will withstand many intensive training hours without the colours and prints fading.

Frequently asked questions — Thai boxing shorts

What size thai boxing short do I need?

Thai boxing shorts generally use “regular” sizes, from XXS to XL.

Each brand and model of Thai boxing shorts has a unique size chart (next to the size selector and at the bottom in the content). This provides the best possible guideline for what we think is the best choice for you for that specific brand and model.

Please note that there are no separate children’s sizes. These are generally XXS, XS, and S.

The Thai brands Fairtex, Booster, King Pro, and Twins run much smaller than European sizes. Feel free to choose one or even two sizes larger than you normally wear.

Can thai boxing shorts go in the washing machine?

Yes.

Most thai boxing shorts can be machine-washed, but it’s best to turn them inside out first. It’s also best to wash them at a low temperature. You can optionally place them in a laundry bag to protect them. Hand washing is, of course, the safest option.

Washing instructions:
Always check the washing instructions on the label of the thai boxing shorts first. Some shorts may require a specific washing temperature or cycle.

Inside out:
Turn the thai boxing shorts inside out to protect the outside and prints during washing.

Washing machine:
Choose a delicate or low-temperature cycle, such as 30°C or 40°C. Avoid hot water, as it can damage the fabric.

Laundry bag:
Use a laundry bag for delicate clothing to protect the shorts from the movement of the washing machine, especially if the shorts have hook-and-loop fasteners.

Drying:
Simply let the shorts air-dry as usual. Do not use a tumble dryer, as the heat can damage the fabric and change the fit.

Additional tips:
It’s best to wash the thai boxing shorts separately or with similar colors to prevent fading and color transfer.

What material are the thai boxing shorts made of?

Thai boxing shorts are made from satinmicrofiber or nylon.

Satin is the classic material—lightweight, smooth, and flexible. Used by brands such as TwinsBoosterKing Pro Boxing and Fairtex. Suitable for both training and competition.

Microfiber is soft, abrasion-free, and lightweight. Used by XPRT —ideal for intensive training with excellent value for money.

Nylon is sturdier and more durable, with a sporty matte appearance. Found in the Booster Retro Hybrid range.

Is there a difference between women's and men's thai boxing shorts?

No.

There is no difference between women’s and men’s Thai boxing shorts. Thai boxing shorts are almost always unisex, but women sometimes choose a different color or pattern that appeals to them more. Thai boxing shorts for boys and girls, men and women are available in various color combinations.

Why are kickboxing shorts and thai boxing shorts so loose?

Kickboxing shorts, as well as thai boxing shorts for Muay Thai, are designed with wide legs for maximum freedom of movement. This is essential, especially when performing kicks and knee strikes.

The loose fit and wide legs prevent the shorts from restricting leg movement, which is crucial for effective knee and kicking techniques.

You can absolutely come to our showroom to try on and purchase kickboxing shorts right away. Then you’ll know 100% for sure that you’re leaving the showroom with your favorite kickboxing shorts! We have the same stock in our physical showroom as in the webshop.
