Caring for your kidney and groin guard – maintaining leather and microfiber
Leather models (Rival No-Foul Guerrero, Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul): regularly treat with a leather conditioner to prevent drying out. After use, always air out in a dry, well-ventilated place.
Microfiber models (Rival RNFL Pro, RNFL10, RNFL100 Professional): wipe with a damp cloth after use. Never store in a closed bag.
Winning CPS-500 (synthetic leather): wipe with a damp cloth and air out after use.
Regularly check the hook-and-loop or lace closure for wear.

Frequently asked questions — Kidney- and groinguard boxing
Why are groinguards for boxing so different from regular jockstraps?
A boxing groin protector or no-foul protector often has a larger padded area than a separate cup. This means coverage around the groin, hips and lower abdomen varies by model.
Check the model's actual coverage and intended use. The product name alone does not guarantee protection for specific organs or against every type of strike.
Is a groinguard mandatory?
That depends on the sport, type of practice, and competition rules. A groinguard may be recommended or required during training, but there is no universal rule that applies equally to every martial art, every exam, and every participant.
Check the equipment requirements for your training session or event and choose a model designed for that purpose. A proper fit and secure fastening remain important, even when the groinguard is required.
Can groinguards and cups be washed?
Clean the parts separately. Remove a removable cup from the fabric shorts before washing them. Wipe the cup clean after use with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly. Clean larger padded no-foul protectors by wiping them down, not by putting them whole in the washing machine. Don’t forget the belts, fastenings and lining.
What size groinguard should I get?
Use the size chart for your model: choose XPRT Basic men's by weight, and Shock Doctor and Rival by waist size. For XPRT Basic men's, size M is 51–70 kg; for Shock Doctor, M is a waist size of 81–86 cm, and for Rival RNFL Pro, 76–86 cm. Women's models have their own size charts. Then lift your knees and twist to check that the protector stays in place without pinching.
