Kidney and groin protector for boxing – mandatory at high level

With professional boxing a kidney and groin protector (also known as a No-Foul Protector) is mandatory.

It protects not only the groin but also the kidneys - vital organs that are especially vulnerable to body shots in boxing.

Fight2Win offers the most complete range of professional kidney and groin protectors in the Netherlands and Europe: Rival RNFL Pro (F2W choice), Rival RNFL10, Rival RNFL10-360 D3O (Intelli-Shock D3O technology), Rival RNFL100 Professional (Feather Lite), Rival No-Foul Guerrero (leather, lace-up), Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul (leather, handmade in Mexico), and Winning CPS-500 (Made in Japan).

Rival, Cleto Reyes or Winning – the professional models compared

Rival RNFL Pro (S-XL, 469 g, hook-and-loop closure, F2W option): foam/polyester/microfiber - the best-selling professional kidney and groin protector in our range.

Rival RNFL10 (S-XL, 350 g, hook-and-loop closure, F2W option): foam/leather/microfiber - slightly lighter than the RNFL Pro.

Rival RNFL10-360 D3O (M-L, hook-and-loop closure): Intelli-Shock D3O technology for superior shock absorption - Rival's most advanced model.

Rival RNFL100 Professional (S-XL, 377 g, laces or hook-and-loop closure, Feather Lite): microfiber - the lightest Rival model.

Rival No-Foul Guerrero (M-L, 420 g, laces): leather - for boxers who prefer traditional lace-up closure.

Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul (S-XL, 700 g, hook-and-loop closure): leather, handmade in Mexico - the heaviest and most robust protector in our range.

Winning CPS-500 Lace-Up (M-L, 320 g, laces): Made in Japan - available in Black, Red and White.

Winning CPS-500B (M-L, 320 g, hook-and-loop closure): same model with hook-and-loop closure.

Velcro or laces – the choice professional boxers make

Velcro (Rival RNFL Pro, RNFL10, RNFL10-360 D3O, Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul, Winning CPS-500B): quick and easy to put on and take off, easy to fasten yourself—the practical choice for training.

Laces (Rival RNFL100 Professional, Rival No-Foul Guerrero, Winning CPS-500 Lace-Up): provides the most precise and secure fit—the choice of professional boxers for competitions. Requires a second person to fasten.

Many professional boxers choose hook-and-loop closures for training and laces for competitions

Size guide for kidney and groin protectors – fit is crucial for protection

A kidney and groin protector should fit snugly without pinching—a loose protector does not provide sufficient protection against body shots.

Rival RNFL Pro, RNFL10, RNFL100: available in S, M, L, and XL.

Rival RNFL10-360 D3O: available in M and L.

Rival No-Foul Guerrero and Winning CPS-500: available in M and L—specifically for adult professional boxers.

Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul: available in S, M, L, and XL.

D3O, Feather Lite and leather – technology and materials in professional groinguards

Intelli-Shock D3O (Rival RNFL10-360 D3O): the material hardens upon impact for superior shock absorption—the same technology used in the Rival RHG10 headgear.

Feather Lite microfiber (Rival RNFL100 Professional, 377 g): the lightest professional model in our range—ideal for boxers who want to minimize weight.

Leather (Rival No-Foul Guerrero, Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul): traditional material for professional boxing protectors—durable and molds to the body with intensive use.

Foam and synthetic leather (Winning CPS-500, 320 g): lightweight, precisely molded, and extremely comfortable—the Japanese approach to professional protection.

Caring for your kidney and groin protector – caring for leather and microfiber

Leather models (Rival No-Foul Guerrero, Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul): regularly treat with a leather conditioner to prevent drying out. Always air out after use in a dry, well-ventilated place.

Microfiber models (Rival RNFL Pro, RNFL10, RNFL100 Professional): wipe with a damp cloth after use. Never store in a closed bag.

Winning CPS-500 (synthetic leather): wipe with a damp cloth and air out after use.

Regularly check the hook-and-loop or lace-up closure for wear.

Frequently asked questions — Kidney- and groinguard boxing

Why are groinguards in boxing so different from regular cups?

A "regular" cup only protects the groin. A no-foul protector in boxing protects the kidneys, liver, and groin.

In boxing, the chance of taking punches to the liver or kidneys is much greater than in kickboxing. Extra protection is therefore needed to minimize the risk of injuries and damage.

Is a groinguard mandatory?

Yes, usually.

A groinguard is often mandatory or recommended. For boxing, kickboxing, and karate training, for example, it is recommended. In krav maga and self-defense systems, it is mandatory. The area protected by the groinguard is, of course, highly vulnerable to injury.

During exams and competitions, a groinguard is always mandatory for both men and women.

Can you wash groinguards and cups?

Yes and no.

This depends on the brand and model. You can almost never wash the cup (the hard part), nor do you need to. Most regular groinguards are built into a kind of sports brief (jockstrap). You can remove the cup and wash the brief.

The larger kidney and groinguards (No-Foul) designed for boxing obviously cannot be washed in a washing machine either. This really shouldn’t be necessary. You can simply wipe them down and dry them to keep them fresh.

Naturally, you can’t wash the steel groinguards either. The metal is not designed to withstand this.

What size groinguard should I get?

When choosing the size of groinguards, the main consideration is waist circumference rather than the cup size itself. For each groinguard, we have included a unique size chart (in the size selector and below in the product information) for that specific brand and model.
