Carbon fiber, D3O and leather – choose the material based on your sport

Carbon fiber (Shock Doctor SD329, Ultrapro 337): stronger than plastic while remaining lightweight—ideal for advanced athletes in all martial arts.

Intelli-Shock D3O (Rival RNFL10-360 D3O): superior shock absorption for professional boxers—the material hardens on impact.

Leather and foam (Rival RNFL10, Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul): traditional professional materials for high-level boxing.

Microfiber Feather Lite (Rival RNFL100 Professional, 377 g): the lightest professional model in our range.

Men’s groinguard size guide – from boys’ XXS to adults’ XXL

XPRT Basic for men: available from XXS (boys) to XL in White, and XS to XL in Black—the widest size range in our collection.

Shock Doctor models (SD213, SD329, Core Bioflex, Ultrapro 337): S to XXL—measure your waist circumference to find the right size.

Rival No-Foul Guerrero and Winning CPS-500: M and L—specifically for adult professional boxers.

Velcro or laces – closure systems for professional boxing groinguards

Most groin protectors have an elastic waistband—no fastening required, just pull it on.

For professional boxing kidney and groin protectors, there are two options.

Velcro (Rival RNFL Pro, RNFL10, RNFL10-360 D3O, Cleto Reyes Kidney and Foul, Winning CPS-500B): quick to put on and take off, and easy to fasten yourself.

Laces (Rival RNFL100 Professional, Rival No-Foul Guerrero, Winning CPS-500 Lace-Up): provides the most precise and snug fit—the choice of professional boxers. Requires a second person to fasten.

Maintaining your men’s groinguard – keeping it hygienic and durable

Loose-fitting trunks (XPRT Basic, Shock Doctor SD213, SD329, Booster G8, Twins Steel G3): easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Always air them out after use.

Compression pants (Shock Doctor Core Bioflex, Ultrapro 337): follow the washing instructions on the label. Wash after every training session.

Professional leather kidney and groin protectors (Rival RNFL10, Cleto Reyes, Rival No-Foul Guerrero): treat regularly with a leather conditioner. Never store in a closed bag.

Frequently asked questions — Men's groin protectors & groinguards

Why are groinguards in boxing so different from regular cups?

A "regular" cup only protects the groin. A no-foul protector in boxing protects the kidneys, liver, and groin.

In boxing, the chance of taking punches to the liver or kidneys is much greater than in kickboxing. Extra protection is therefore needed to minimize the risk of injuries and damage.

Is a groinguard mandatory?

Yes, usually.

A groinguard is often mandatory or recommended. For boxing, kickboxing, and karate training, for example, it is recommended. In krav maga and self-defense systems, it is mandatory. The area protected by the groinguard is, of course, highly vulnerable to injury.

During exams and competitions, a groinguard is always mandatory for both men and women.

Can you wash groinguards and cups?

Yes and no.

This depends on the brand and model. You can almost never wash the cup (the hard part), nor do you need to. Most regular groinguards are built into a kind of sports brief (jockstrap). You can remove the cup and wash the brief.

The larger kidney and groinguards (No-Foul) designed for boxing obviously cannot be washed in a washing machine either. This really shouldn’t be necessary. You can simply wipe them down and dry them to keep them fresh.

Naturally, you can’t wash the steel groinguards either. The metal is not designed to withstand this.

What size groinguard should I get?

When choosing the size of groinguards, the main consideration is waist circumference rather than the cup size itself. For each groinguard, we have included a unique size chart (in the size selector and below in the product information) for that specific brand and model.
