More than protection—a ritual that begins every training session.

Booster developed its ankle guards from the Thai martial arts at the heart of the brand. They provide compression and stability during kicking techniques, sweeps, and rotational movements—and are just as at home in a recreational kickboxing class as in professional Muay Thai training. Fight2Win keeps the complete range of Booster ankle guards in stock at its Waddinxveen location.

Why do Muay Thai athletes and kickboxers wear ankle guards?

Ankle guards are more than just protection in the Muay Thai world—they are part of the sport’s tradition and ritual. Thai fighters have worn them for generations as a symbol of respect for the sport and as practical protection for the ankles and feet during kicking techniques.

Functionally, ankle guards provide compression and stability to the ankle joint—crucial during the rotational movements involved in low kicks, roundhouse kicks, and sweeps. Booster Fight Gear - rooted in Thai martial arts - developed its ankle guards line around this dual purpose: protection and tradition.

Care and hygiene – how to keep ankle guards fresh after intensive use

Ankle guards are worn directly against the skin during intense training—sweat and bacteria quickly build up if you don't wash them regularly. Wash ankle guards after every training session at 30°C in the washing machine, preferably in a laundry bag to protect the elastic. Never put them in the dryer—let them air-dry at room temperature to preserve their stretch.

Proper care significantly extends their lifespan. After washing, loosely roll the guards instead of folding them tightly—this helps keep the elastic intact. The Booster AG line is designed to withstand many hours of training with proper use and care.

Why do Muay Thai fighters wear ankle guards?

Muay Thai fighters wear ankle guards to provide extra protection against injuries. They are one of the few types of protective gear allowed in a Muay Thai fight.

In Thai boxing (and kickboxing promotions such as Glory, Enfusion, etc.), fighters wear handwraps, boxing gloves, a mouthguard, and a groinguard. Nothing else. Shin guards are not allowed, but ankle guards are. These provide that little bit of extra protection fighters can use.

Good ankle guards help strengthen the ankle and prevent it from buckling during kicks or movement. Ankle guards also help absorb some of the impact, protecting the bones and joints in the ankle from damage.

Muay Thai ankle guards are essential for anyone who wants to train Muay Thai seriously. They provide support and protection for the ankles, which are vulnerable to injuries during kicks and other movements.

There are many different brands and styles of Muay Thai ankle guards available, so it is important to choose the right pair. Fortunately, we have already selected a range from many brands for you.

It is also a good idea to ask your trainer or training partners whether they have any tips and which ones they would recommend.

What do you wear ankle guards for?

Ankle guards are worn to provide additional ankle support. Thanks to the extra reinforcement from the ankle guards, the risk of injuries is reduced. They provide a compression effect and also strengthen the vulnerable metatarsal bones.
