Jigoro Kano

Founder of Judo. Developed the martial art in 1882 from traditional Japanese jujutsu, emphasizing maximum efficiency and mutual welfare. Established the Kodokan dojo in Tokyo, which became the world headquarters of Judo. Introduced the concept of using an opponent's force against them. Judo became an Olympic sport in 1964, a lasting testament to Kano's vision of martial arts as a path of physical and moral education.
