A "normal" cup only protects the groin. A no-foul protector in boxing protects the kidneys, liver, and groin.

In boxing, the chance of getting hit in the liver or kidneys is much greater than in kickboxing. Therefore, extra protection is needed here to minimize the risk of injuries and damage.
