Tips for Hayabusa T3 MMA Gloves

The 4 oz is intended for competitions and light sparring, while the 7 oz is for training and heavier sparring. Choose your weight based on your type of training, not your hand size. Choose your hand size based on S to XL.

Always wear handwraps or gel-wraps under the gloves for extra protection for your knuckles and wrists.

The LX Retro is made of 100% leather; occasionally use leather grease or conditioner to keep the material supple. We have leather grease from the Rapide brand.

Frequently Asked Questions — Hayabusa T3 LX Retro 7 oz MMA gloves

What is the background of the Hayabusa brand?

Hayabusa (pronounced Ha-Ja-Boe-Sa) is the Japanese word for peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on Earth (a bird of prey recorded at over 500 km/h in a dive). The company was founded in 2006 by Ken & Craig Clement, David Zikakis and Luke Harris and has literally taken flight ever since.

Hayabusa is headquartered in Ontario (Canada) and has its global distribution centre in the heart of Las Vegas (United States). Not entirely coincidentally, this is also where the biggest boxing matches and UFC events take place. Hayabusa also has two exclusive contracts with independent sports centres in Canada, where all Hayabusa products are extensively tested.

Hayabusa aims to offer the best materials in terms of comfort, fit, anatomy and, more importantly, performance and safety! A martial artist is constantly improving and developing themselves. This is a Japanese philosophy that is also applied in business and at Hayabusa: Kaizen. This is the concept of “continuous improvement.

How does the Hayabusa Dual-X closure work?

Hayabusa has developed the patented Dual-X™ closure system for an adjustable fit and ensures that boxers’ hands and wrists remain properly aligned to prevent injuries. This system offers a feel similar to lace-up closures, without requiring someone else to fasten your gloves.

The Dual-X straps work together with our Fusion Splinting Technology to create a system unlike any other on the market. Dual-X plus Fusion Splinting provides superior wrist support and hand protection. Hayabusa T3 boxing gloves maintain 99.7% of the anatomical alignment of the hands and wrists.

That means that when you put your hands into a pair of Hayabusa boxing gloves and secure them, you deliver punches with properly aligned hands and wrists, helping to prevent injuries. Achieving the highest level of wrist support and hand protection means doing more than everyone else. It means innovating.

All Hayabusa T3 boxing gloves feature the Dual-X™ closure system and Fusion Splinting™.

What is the difference between 4 oz and 7 oz MMA gloves?

The difference lies in the weight (oz) of the MMA-gloves. A 4 oz glove is, as expected, lighter than a 7 oz glove.

The 7 oz gloves are more suitable (read: safer) for regular training. This is due to the thicker padding on the striking surface.

The 4 oz MMA-gloves, on the other hand, are often considered competition gloves.

Naturally, both 4 oz and 7 oz can also be used as "training" mma-gloves.

What size MMA gloves do I need?

Besides the difference in weight (4 oz or 7 oz), MMA gloves are also available in sizes S to XL.

These are almost always adult sizes, so most women will fit an S or M, while most men—depending on the size of their hands—will fit an M, L, or XL.

Depending on your age and the circumference of your hands, you will need to choose which size fits your hands best. For personal advice, it is best to visit our store so you can try on the gloves.

Every brand and model of MMA glove on our website has a unique size chart. This provides the best possible guideline for what we think is the best choice for you for that specific model.

Do you use handwraps with MMA gloves?

Yes.

It is common to wear boxing wraps under MMA gloves.

Handwraps provide crucial support and protection for the hands and wrists, which are prone to injuries during training and fights. Boxing wraps help stabilize the wrists and knuckles, prevent hyperextension, and absorb impact.

Reasons to use handwraps for MMA:

  • Support and stability: handwraps connect the small metacarpal bones and the bones of the hand and wrist. This creates a more stable structure that can withstand the force of punches.
  • Injury prevention: they help prevent common MMA injuries, such as broken metacarpal bones, sprained or broken wrists, and knuckle injuries.
  • Improved fit: handwraps improve the fit of your gloves. They give you a more compact, firmer, and snugger feel.
  • Sweat absorption: handwraps absorb sweat, which can help prevent the gloves from becoming slippery and uncomfortable while keeping your hands drier.
  • Hygiene: by absorbing sweat, handwraps help prevent bacteria from growing inside your gloves.
