Namman Muay was founded in Bangkok in 1937. At that time, pharmacist Thongtos Intratat, a boxing enthusiast and gym owner, formulated the original liniment composition to help his boxers warm up faster.
The exact recipe, made from essential oils of local herbs, was known only to Thongtos' family and passed down orally from generation to generation. It wasn't until 1960 that the first products were ready for commercial use, and Namman Muay officially became the world's first boxing liniment.
Namman Muay & combat sports
Many believe that Namman Muay originated in Thai boxing, also known as Muay Thai, but the truth is that it actually stemmed from Thongtos' passion for Western boxing.
His top boxer, Pone Kingpetch, was the first to popularize Namman Muay among fighters and boxing fans. On April 16, 1960, he became the first Thai boxer to become a professional world boxing champion under WBC rules. After his immense achievements in the sport, a statue in his honor was erected in Hua Hin, Thailand.
A tool for world champions
Following its success in the boxing world, Thongtos decided to offer Namman Muay to other athletes who needed fast muscle activation. It goes without saying that Namman Muay was received with great enthusiasm.
After the product became commercially viable in 1960, a wonderful collaboration story began with the Muay Thai sport. Since then, the composition of the liniment has been improved year after year to maximize the effectiveness of its ingredients.
Today, there is no Muay Thai gym, boxing event, or combat sports fan who doesn't know the many benefits of the now legendary Namman Muay products.
