For Rival gloves, pads and headgear, follow this brand guidance: wipe them with a clean, dry cloth and let them air-dry outside the bag in a cool, shady, well-ventilated place. Use only mild cleaners or sports sprays suitable for the material. Do not use petroleum jelly, oil, leather grease or heavy creams on Rival gear, even on leather versions. Do not use any leather greases or heavy conditioners shown below on Rival either. Avoid washing machines, tumble dryers, direct heat and sunlight.

  • Take them out of your bag immediately after training.
  • Wipe the outside and inside with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Store in a cool, dry place with good natural ventilation.
  • You can use an antibacterial spray.
  • Not applicable to Rival: For leather headgear: use leather grease/leather conditioner once a month to prevent cracking and drying out.
  • DO NOT put in the washing machine.

Tips for Taekwondo Headgear

The Taekwondo headgear is available in XS up to XL; consult the size chart on the product page to find the right size. The hook-and-loop closure makes it quick and easy to put on and take off and ensures a secure fit during training.

The protective coating makes the headgear easy to clean; wipe it with a damp cloth after each training session. Let it air out before storing it.

Are these safety guards allowed in semi-contact competitions?

Check the current requirements of the semi-contact organization for this model and version. Sport such as ITF Taekwon-do and All-Style Karate may have different requirements for materials and certification marks.

The safety or semi-contact category does not mean the equipment is approved for every competition.

What is the benefit of good headgear?

Depending on the design, headgear provides extra coverage around areas such as the forehead, cheeks and ears. A proper fit and clear visibility are important for training equipment to be practical.

More facial coverage does not mean that all types of head injury are prevented. Headgear does not guarantee protection against concussion and is not a reason to sparren harder or without restraint. Check the intended use and the training or competition rules.

How do I know if a headgear fits properly?

We usually do two things in our showroom:

  1. Quickly shake your head from side to side
  2. Tap all sides of the headgear. Preferably use a slightly sliding technique to force friction.

If the headgear barely moves or does not move at all and does not pinch at the same time, you have the right size!
