The back of the Rival SH20 is made of perforated neoprene - this promotes airflow and keeps the legs cool during intense training.

The material also makes the protectors quick and easy to put on and take off.

A sturdy hook-and-loop closure below the knee and an elastic ankle strap ensure a secure, non-twisting fit.

Clean the Rival SH20 after every training session with a damp cloth or disinfectant spray. The neoprene and microfiber material dries quickly. What is the difference between MMA shin guards and kickboxing shin guards?

MMA shin guards such as the Rival SH20 are more compact and lighter than kickboxing shin guards - they provide protection during stand-up work without getting in the way during ground work and grappling. Kickboxing shin guards are larger and have more padding, ideal for intense sparren with lots of leg work but less suitable for the mat.

How should a shin guard fit?

A shin guard must fit properly around the shin to provide the most effective protection and mobility. A shin guard consists of a safety kick and a shin protector. The part that protects the shin should start just above the ankle and end just below the knee. Ideally, the upper strap should sit on the calf, as placing it in the back of the knee can cause irritation or pain.

Can I wash my shin guards?

No.

This is strongly discouraged. It’s best to clean them with a cloth and, if necessary, use a care spray to keep them fresh.

Can I use Rival shin guards on the punching bag?

Yes.

This is possible if you quickly develop bruises or pain in your shins.

Using shin guards on the bag does leave “scuffmarks” (stains and smudges) on the shin guards.
