Rival is known for its close ties to the boxing world—the brand was founded by Russ Anber, cutman and trainer of world champions such as Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk. That background is reflected in Rival’s choices: functional, durable, and free of unnecessary embellishments.

The Rival double end balls are available in\u00a0 100% leather (RDBL4-8) and\u00a0 synthetic leather (RDBL3-9)—both materials are well above average for this price range. Suitable for boxers who train daily and need a ball that can keep up.

Rival offers two double end balls, each with its own character—the difference lies in the material, size, and rebound behavior.

The RDBL4-8 (21 cm, 100% leather) is the smaller and faster of the two. Leather provides a firmer impact response and slightly less predictable rebound behavior than synthetic leather, increasing the training challenge. The choice for boxers working on speed and precision on a more compact target.

The RDBL3-9 (23 cm, synthetic leather) is slightly larger and therefore a little more accessible—the rebound behavior is more consistent and predictable than that of the RDBL4-8. The black-and-white color scheme makes the ball easy to see during training. The choice for boxers working on timing and combinations on a slightly larger target.

Both models are built for intensive use at advanced and professional levels—not entry-level models, but working tools for serious boxers.

The 2 cm difference between the RDBL4-8 and RDBL3-9 may sound small—but it has a direct impact on rebound behavior and training difficulty.

A  smaller ball (21 cm - RDBL4-8) rebounds faster and more unpredictably after impact. The target is smaller, placing greater demands on precision and timing. The choice for advanced athletes and professionals working on speed and accuracy.

A  larger ball (23 cm - RDBL3-9) rebounds slightly more slowly and consistently—the target is larger, and the rhythm is easier to maintain. It is still a challenging ball for advanced-level training, but more accessible for boxers switching from an entry-level model to a Rival.

As a rule of thumb: if you are already comfortable with a double-end ball and want to increase the intensity, choose the RDBL4-8. If you are new to Rival or want to work on consistency and rhythm first, start with the RDBL3-9.

Rival uses two materials in its double end balls—both chosen for training performance and durability.

100% leather (RDBL4-8) is the traditional material for professional-level double end balls. Leather has a firmer impact response than synthetic material—the ball feels more compact and provides more feedback with every punch. With proper care, a leather ball lasts significantly longer than synthetic leather. Leather does require more care—regularly wiping it down and periodically treating it with a leather conditioner significantly extends its lifespan.

Synthetic leather (RDBL3-9) is easier to maintain than leather and retains its shape and color longer without special care. Its impact response is slightly softer than leather, but its rebound is more consistent—making the material suitable for boxers working on rhythm and combinations. Rival uses synthetic leather at a quality level comparable to the leather used by many other brands.

Both materials are built for intensive daily use—the choice between the two comes down to preference for impact feel and willingness to perform maintenance.

Rival double end balls are supplied without mounting material—the choice between an elastic cord or a base depends on the training location and the available mounting options.

The elastic cord is the classic method—two hooks in the ceiling and floor, with an elastic cord on both sides of the ball. This provides the most authentic rebound and is standard in professional boxing gyms. Fight2Win sells Super Pro elastic cords separately as replacement or additional components.

The Rival Anchor is Rival’s own base—designed as a lower mounting point for athletes who do not want to or cannot install a hook in the floor. The base can be filled with up to 30 kg of water for stability. The upper attachment remains a ceiling hook. The Rival Anchor is compact, easy to move, and suitable for home use and changing training locations.

Both Rival double end balls are built for intensive use—with proper maintenance, they will last considerably longer.

RDBL4-8 (100% leather) - Wipe the ball with a dry cloth after every training session to remove sweat and moisture. Periodically treat the leather with a leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking. Store the ball at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Leather that is maintained regularly retains its punch response and flexibility for considerably longer.

RDBL3-9 (synthetic leather) - Easier to maintain than leather. Wiping it with a slightly damp cloth after use is sufficient. No leather conditioner is needed. Store the ball in a dry place away from direct sunlight.

Check the elastic regularly for cracks or loss of tension—a slack or damaged elastic changes the rebound behavior and increases the risk of breakage during training. Fight2Win supplies loose Super Pro elastic as a replacement part.
