Light. Fast. Protected.

Below you’ll find our information guide to taekwondo headgear—from material choices and competition rules to sizing advice and brand comparisons. Whether you’re training for the first time or competing, we’ll help you make the right choice.

Lightweight, maximum visibility, easy to clean — the requirements for taekwondo headgear

Taekwondo headgear is fundamentally different from boxing or kickboxing headgear.

They are made of foam or polyurethane - lightweight, shock-absorbing, and easy to clean.

The Bytomic Defender (240 g, foam) and Adidas Taekwondo (foam/polyurethane) are the lightest models in our range.

All models have a hook-and-loop fastening for quick putting on and removal. Maximum visibility is essential—all models in our range have been selected with this in mind.

ITF Taekwon-Do or WT Taekwondo – which headgear is mandatory?

For WT Taekwondo (World Taekwondo) the rules for headgear depend on the governing body and tournament—often, a specific WT-approved model is required.

The Bytomic Defender and Adidas Taekwondo are excellent for training and recreational use in both styles.

Taekwondo headgear size guide – from children’s XS to adults’ XL

Taekwondo headgear is available from XS to XL—suitable for children and adults.

The Bytomic Defender and Adidas Taekwondo are available in XS, S, M, L, and XL—ideal for clubs that want one model for all ages.

All models have a hook-and-loop closure that is easy to fasten yourself—even for children.

Measure the circumference of the head at the widest point:

  • XS: up to 50 cm
  • S: 50–54 cm
  • M: 54–57 cm
  • L: 57–60 cm
  • XL: 60+ cm

Red and Blue – the official competition colors for taekwondo

In taekwondo, red and blue are the official competition colors—one athlete wears Red (Chong), the other Blue (Hong).

Fight2Win carries all models in both colors: Bytomic Defender in Black, Red, and Blue; Adidas Taekwondo in Red and Blue.

For training, black (Bytomic Defender Black) is the most neutral choice.

For competitions, choose red or blue based on the draw or club agreement.

Taekwondo, ITF, budo and more – this headgear works for multiple sports

The taekwondo headgear in our range is highly versatile.

The Bytomic Defender (sport: Budo, Taekwon-do) is suitable for ITF Taekwon-do and other martial arts such as karate and judo.

The Adidas Taekwondo is specifically designed for WT Taekwondo but also works for other martial arts.

Do you practice multiple martial arts? The Bytomic Defender is the most versatile choice in our range.

Foam is easy to clean – this is how to maintain your taekwondo headgear

Taekwondo headgear made from foam and polyurethane (Bytomic, Adidas) is easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild cleaning solution.

Always let the headgear air out after use before storing it.

Check the Velcro fastening regularly for wear and tear.

With proper care, these lightweight materials stay in good condition for a long time—a major advantage over leather.
