Tips for Hayabusa T3 Headgear

Adjust the headgear using the T-Cross belt system - the crossing belts distribute pressure evenly across the head for a stable, comfortable fit that won't shift during sparring.

The VYLAR®-2 material is low-maintenance but sensitive to prolonged moisture and sweat. Wipe the headgear with a damp cloth after every training session and let it air out; never store it directly in a closed sports bag.

Frequently Asked Questions — Headgear Hayabusa T3 Boxing Black

Is Hayabusa’s Vylar-2 just as good as genuine leather?

Vylar-2 synthetic leather is scientifically proven to be up to nearly30% stronger than regular leather. These Hayabusa boxing gloves will therefore certainly not fall short of genuine leather boxing gloves. In addition, Vylar-2 synthetic leather retains its color better and does not develop cracks.

What is the background of the Hayabusa brand?

Hayabusa (pronounced Ha-Ja-Boe-Sa) is the Japanese word for peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on Earth (a bird of prey recorded at over 500 km/h in a dive). The company was founded in 2006 by Ken & Craig Clement, David Zikakis and Luke Harris and has literally taken flight ever since.

Hayabusa is headquartered in Ontario (Canada) and has its global distribution centre in the heart of Las Vegas (United States). Not entirely coincidentally, this is also where the biggest boxing matches and UFC events take place. Hayabusa also has two exclusive contracts with independent sports centres in Canada, where all Hayabusa products are extensively tested.

Hayabusa aims to offer the best materials in terms of comfort, fit, anatomy and, more importantly, performance and safety! A martial artist is constantly improving and developing themselves. This is a Japanese philosophy that is also applied in business and at Hayabusa: Kaizen. This is the concept of “continuous improvement.

Why do some headgear have an open chin?

Maximum visibility, minimal obstruction.

A headgear in combat sports such as boxing often has an open chin to improve the fighter's comfort and mobility.

This design allows fighters to see all incoming punches, especially hooks and uppercuts, without being hindered by thick padding.

The open design also allows for better head movement and countering opportunities during sparring sessions and training.

Some key benefits of open-chin headgear:

  • Improved visibility: an open-face design provides a wider and clearer field of vision, which is crucial for anticipating punches and reacting quickly, especially during training or sparren.
  • Improved mobility: the smaller amount of padding around the chin and cheeks allows for smoother head movement, enabling fighters to evade punches more effectively.
  • Focus on countering: by maintaining a clear view of their opponent, fighters can better anticipate and counter their attacks.
  • Fewer restrictions: open headgear is generally preferred for its greater comfort and breathability during intense training sessions.

Please note:

While open headgear prioritizes visibility and agility, it naturally provides less protection for the face, particularly the chin and nose, compared with headgear featuring a face bar or cheek protection.

However, the open design is often preferred because it allows fighters to sparren and train without feeling overly restricted in their freedom of movement. Many fighters are not fans of overly "bulky" protective gear anyway.

How does the T-cross closure work?

The Hayabusa T-Cross system is an ingenious two-strap hook-and-loop closure used in Hayabusa T3 headgear. It is designed to provide an easy, secure, and adjustable fit, ensuring that the headgear does not shift during training.

The T-Cross system uses two straps positioned at right angles to each other that can be adjusted very easily, similar to the brilliant dual-X closure on Hayabusa T3 boxing gloves.

Key features of the Hayabusa T-Cross system:

  • Secure fit: The T-Cross closure ensures that the headgear stays firmly in place and does not shift, even during intensive training.
  • Adjustability: The system provides a precise, easily adjustable fit, ensuring that the headgear is comfortable and secure for different head sizes and shapes.
  • Ease of use: The two straps are easy to adjust yourself, allowing the headgear to be put on and taken off quickly and easily without assistance.
  • Comparable to T3 boxing gloves: The closure works in a similar way to the dual-X closure on Hayabusa T3 boxing gloves.
