Boxing

Boxing, also known as Western boxing, is a wildly popular combat sport in which two people fight each other using only their fists.

Materials used

Generally, unless it's a bare-knuckle match, protective gloves, also known as boxing gloves, are worn. In addition, handwraps, a mouthguard, groin protection, and, depending on the regulations, a headgear are usually worn.

Generally, the term refers to Western boxing, but boxing techniques are used in various martial arts around the world. These are sometimes supplemented with striking, punching, and kicking techniques using legs, knees, and elbows. Examples include kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sanda, Savate, and many other exotic martial arts.

Introduction of rules

One of the most significant milestones in the history of modern boxing is the introduction of the "Marquess of Queensberry Rules" in 1867. This revolutionized boxing, and today it is an Olympic sport and by far the most popular combat sport in the world.

Famous boxers

Of course, everyone has heard of the most famous boxers in history: Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Robert Duran, Bep van Klaveren (we can't leave out our Dutch pride here), and of course one of the greatest celebrities ever: Cassius Clay, aka Muhammad Ali!
