Thai pads, also known as kick pads or pao, are larger, elongated pads held by a trainer to practice punches, but primarily hard kicks .

They are usually made of thick foam and have a sturdy handle on the back for the trainer to hold.

Thai pads are designed to help practitioners practice powerful kicks, such as cross kicks, high kicks, knee strikes, and elbow strikes.

Punching mitts, also known as  focus pads , are  compact pads that are held by a  trainer during a training session. The terms punching mitts and focus pads are used interchangeably.
