In 1978, one of the first martial arts stores (by Super Pro) was opened in Rotterdam. Rotterdam has always been considered a boxing city. It is home to Bep van Klaveren "The Dutch Windmill", the 1928 Olympic champion. It is also home to former WBO world champion Regilio Tuur, former WBU world champion Don Diego Poeder, and many others.

After the store became a great success, its owner founded the Super Pro Boxing Gear brand. With the slogan “the champions choice” , the brand quickly established itself in the Dutch boxing community.
