Choose a Knuckle guard – foam, gel, or hybrid wrap
There are three types of knuckle protection.
Foam and gel knuckle guards such as the XPRT Protect Gel, Hayabusa Guard, Booster, and Winning NG2 Gel are worn under the boxing glove and provide direct padding on the knuckles.
The Rival Intelli-Shock is a wrap-style model worn over your handwraps—ideal for boxers who want extra protection without losing space inside the glove.
The Rival RGW is a hybrid gel wrap that also functions as a knuckle guard, available in 380, 450, and 510 cm.
Most knuckle guards are one-size or available in S-M and L-XL.
The Hayabusa Guard is available in S-M and L-XL. Measure the circumference of your hand at its widest point: S-M up to 19 cm, L-XL over 19 cm.
The Rival Intelli-Shock is available in M and L, based on hand size.
The Rival RGW is based on length and adjusts to your hand depending on how it is wrapped.
XPRT Protect Gel, Booster and Winning NG2 Gel are one-size and fit most adult hands.
Combine Knuckle guards with handwraps and boxing gloves
Knuckle guards are worn under the boxing glove on top of your handwraps.
The XPRT Protect Gel, Hayabusa Guard, Booster, and Winning NG2 Gel are placed directly over the knuckles before putting on the gloves.
The Rival Intelli-Shock is specifically applied over your handwraps—the wrap construction keeps it in place.
Always check that your glove provides enough room. With smaller 10- or 12-oz gloves, a thick knuckle guard may fit too tightly. With 14 oz and larger, there is generally enough room.
Knuckle guards for beginners, heavy hitters, and competitive boxers
Beginners and recreational boxers are best off starting with the XPRT Protect Gel - affordable, genuine gel padding, and available for immediate delivery.
Advanced boxers who punch hard choose the Rival Intelli-Shock for extra protection during intense sparren.
Heavy hitters and high-level boxers choose the Winning NG2 Gel - the absolute top in materials and protection, especially valued by boxers who train hard every day.

Washing and maintaining Knuckle guards
Most knuckle guards are machine washable at 30°C in a laundry bag.
Always let them air-dry—never put them in the dryer, as heat damages gel inserts and elastic.
Air them out briefly after every training session and don’t put them straight into your sports bag.
The Winning NG2 Gel requires extra care due to its premium materials—hand washing is recommended.
Models with a PU outer layer can also be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

Polycotton is a fabric made from a blend of cotton and polyester fibers. The ratio of fibers can vary, but 80% polyester and 20% cotton are often used for handwraps. For our karate and taekwon-do uniforms, the ratio is usually 65% polyester and 35% cotton.
Polycotton combines the benefits of both materials: the breathability of cotton and the durability and quick-drying properties of polyester.
Why is polycotton used?
More durable: polyester makes the fabric stronger and more resistant to wear than pure cotton.
Wrinkle-resistant: polycotton is much less prone to wrinkling than 100% cotton. This is especially useful for martial arts uniforms, as they require less ironing.
Quick-drying: polyester fibers dry faster than cotton, which is useful for sportswear and sports equipment.
Economical: polycotton is cheaper than 100% cotton.
Versatile: polycotton is suitable for various applications, such as clothing and handwraps.
More elastic: handwraps are more comfortable with a little stretch. 100% cotton has no stretch at all.

A knuckle guard provides additional impact cushioning created during punching. This also helps reduce the risk of injury to the knuckles, metacarpal bones, wrists, and elbows.
A knuckle guard is therefore highly suitable for giving your knuckles extra protection during intensive punching and boxing.
It is widely used because it is a versatile, safe, and durable material. Neoprene was originally developed to replace rubber and therefore has the same positive properties: flexible and sturdy at the same time.
Neoprene is used in many products, such as gaskets, wetsuits, and laptop sleeves. In the martial arts world, it is used, among other things, for knuckle guards, gelwraps, elbow pads, and knee pads.

Hayabusa (pronounced Ha-Ja-Boe-Sa) is the Japanese word for peregrine falcon, the fastest animal on Earth (a bird of prey recorded at over 500 km/h in a dive). The company was founded in 2006 by Ken & Craig Clement, David Zikakis and Luke Harris and has literally taken flight ever since.
Hayabusa is headquartered in Ontario (Canada) and has its global distribution centre in the heart of Las Vegas (United States). Not entirely coincidentally, this is also where the biggest boxing matches and UFC events take place.
