Frequently Asked Questions — Thai boxing gloves

What is the difference between bag gloves and boxing gloves?

Bag gloves and boxing gloves are both used in (kick)boxing training but serve different purposes and have distinct features.

Bag gloves are specially designed for punching bag training and pad work. They have less padding and often less wrist support, providing more feedback and faster combination possibilities.

Boxing gloves, on the other hand, are used for sparring and possibly competitions, focusing on protection and safety with thicker padding and more wrist support.

Features of bag gloves:

  • Purpose: specially designed for punching bags and pad training to enhance speed and precision.
  • Padding: less padding compared to boxing gloves for more impact feedback. The materials are of much higher density to withstand repeated impact.
  • Wrist support: less wrist support to promote proper punching technique. However, this is not always the case; many Rival bag gloves have excellent wrist support (Wrist-Lock 2).
  • Fit: smaller and tighter fit for better wrist stabilization.
  • Weight: lighter for faster punches and combinations. Usually 8 oz or 10 oz.
  • Design: usually has a loose thumb and sometimes no Velcro or laces for quick on and off.
How do I use a disinfectant spray for boxing gloves?

After every training, spray a small dose into the boxing gloves. One spray is enough.

If you also use a deodorizer (which we recommend), we advise letting the boxing gloves dry first using the deodorizers and then using the disinfectant spray.

Tips for use:

  • Hold the can 5 to 15 cm above the surface and quickly move the spray over the item you want to treat.
  • Don’t leave your smelly sports gear lying around for too long; spray them immediately after training.
Are boxing gloves safe for children to use?

Yes.

Boxing gloves that fit well are definitely safe for children. Of course, there are a few important factors to consider: the length and width of the hand compartment and wrist closure. If these fit well without pinching, then it is safe to use.

Also, don’t buy kids boxing gloves that are too big, because too loose means sliding, and that is not good.

How does a deodorizer work?

Deodorizers for boxing gloves are basically moisture absorbers that are specially designed for boxing gloves. You put them in your boxing gloves after use. This way, they dry much faster and sweat doesn’t get the chance to settle into the lining or padding.

Deodorizers ensure that:
your boxing gloves dry faster

  1. your gloves stay fresher
  2. the lining and padding remain in good condition longer
  3. de voering en padding langer in goede staat blijven
Is there a difference between kickboxing gloves and boxing gloves?

No.

Actually, there is no difference.

There are brands that are more focused on boxing or brands that are more focused on kickboxing and thai boxing.

There are some small differences, but in practice, you can use boxing gloves for kickboxing and kickboxing gloves for boxing.

Is there a difference between women's and men's boxing gloves?

No.

There aren't really specific women's boxing gloves. Boxing gloves are unisex, but women usually just choose a somewhat lighter boxing glove (read: smaller size). These are available in various color combinations.

Women generally have narrower hands than men, so it's better not to go for a boxing glove that is too heavy. We have made a separate selection within our range of boxing gloves that are more suitable for women due to the fit.

What are good brands for boxing gloves for kids?

The brands we recommend for children are XPRT Fight Gear, Booster, and King. These brands all have different models and fits for children, offering many choices.

Of course, there are also different materials such as leather and synthetic leather. The above brands have been rated the best by customers over the years in our assortment of boxing gloves for children.

How does Wrist-Lock 2 work?

Rival invented the V-strap with a double angle to further improve their products.

The Wrist Lock 2 is attached via a loop on both the thumb side and the other side of the glove, ensuring that both sides of a glove, from the thumb to the cuff, are evenly tightened when securing the strap. This is similar to tape applied over the cuff of a professional competition glove.

This system in a Velcro glove approaches the comfort and stability of a full lace boxing glove as closely as possible.

What is the story behind Rival Boxing Gear?

Rival Boxing Gear was founded in Canada in the early 2000s and has since experienced steady growth in the world of martial arts, with a focus on classic boxing. The company was founded by Russ Anber, a prominent name in the boxing world.

Anber, a respected boxing trainer and coach, had deep knowledge of what fighters needed to improve their skills and excel in the ring. With this background and expertise, he aimed to produce high-quality gear that would meet the needs of fighters.

What is the background of the brand XPRT?

The story of XPRT Fight Gear begins in 2005. Enthusiastic martial artist and entrepreneur has dreamed for years of a shop full of the finest fighting gear, available and accessible to everyone.

With personal experiences in the form of training internships, seminars, competitions, and research, he has gained a clear vision of how to offer martial arts, fighting sports, and fighting gear to a broader audience in the new millennium.

With extensive experience in Thai boxing, boxing, karate, and especially ITF Taekwon-do, Fight2Win takes the first steps toward a complete product range. Initially with only ITF Taekwon-do uniforms, safety equipment under the brand and website Taekwon-do.nl.

Then follows the slogan: Fight2Win. And eventually, with the help of other martial artists and graphic designers, a logo and a name emerge for a groundbreaking and affordable martial arts brand: XPRT Fight Gear!
