Good head protection is always important, especially for children who are still growing.

From affordable beginner headgear by Booster and XPRT to leather sparring headgear from Rival and Twins – and foam taekwondo models from Bytomic and Adidas.

Headgear for children – mandatory until the age of 18 for boxing and kickboxing

With boxing, kickboxing, and thai boxing, headgear is mandatory for athletes under 18—and rightly so. A growing head deserves extra protection during sparring. Fight2Win offers headgear from Rival, Booster, Twins, XPRT, and Bytomic for every level and budget.

For taekwondo, there is separate foam headgear—lightweight, easy to clean, and suitable for the high-kicking techniques that characterize the sport.

Rival kids headgear – leather with large cheekbone protectors for sparring

From Rival headgear is made of leather with large cheek protectors that provide maximum protection for the nose and eyes during sparring. The RHG2's hybrid design combines maximum field of vision with traditional cheek protection—also for younger athletes who sparren seriously.

Rival also offers the RHGC2 Amateur—specially designed for competitions, available in black, blue, and red. Designed in Canada, it has been a favorite among boxers worldwide for more than 20 years.

Booster and XPRT – affordable kids headgear for beginners

For children who are just starting boxing or kickboxing Booster and XPRT are the logical choice – competitively priced, with good adjustability and sufficient protection for beginner sparring. Booster has the Marble line in pink and gold, while XPRT offers the XHG10 and Competitor in leather with a microfiber lining.

The chin, cheekbones, and ears are fully protected. The hook-and-loop closure is adjustable and easy to put on and take off – even children can operate it independently.

Taekwondo headgear for children – foam by Bytomic and Adidas

For ITF Taekwon-do and WT Taekwondo there are separate foam headgear options from Bytomic and Adidas - ultralight, easy to clean, and suitable for the high kicking techniques that define the sport. Available in blue, red, and black for the traditional competition colors.

The foam construction provides maximum freedom of movement—you barely feel the headgear during sparren. The hook-and-loop closure is quick to put on and take off.

Twins HGL3 – synthetic leather for boxing and kickboxing competitions

The Twins HGL3 is one of the most recommended headgear options for boxing and kickboxing competitions—made from high-quality synthetic leather with excellent protection for the head, cheekbones, and jaw. Competitively priced for the quality it offers.

Twins Special is a Thai brand with a long tradition in Muay Thai and boxing—the HGL3 has been a favorite among trainers for years who want to protect their students properly without putting a strain on the budget.

Which children’s headgear is suitable for each sport and skill level?

The choice depends on the sport and skill level. For boxing and kickboxing choose a leather headgear with cheekbone protectors—beginners choose Booster or XPRT, while advanced athletes choose Rival or Twins. For taekwondo choose a foam model from Bytomic or Adidas.

For competitions, the color is sometimes prescribed—blue and red are the traditional competition colors in taekwondo. In boxing and kickboxing, black is the most versatile choice.

Frequently asked questions — Headgear for children

Is headgear mandatory?

This depends on the rules of your gym, sport, or competition/tournament in which you participate.

In many training environments (such as a gym or club), its use is optional. However, in recent years it has increasingly become mandatory due to safety concerns and insurance company requirements.

Competitions and combat sports where headgear is mandatory:

  • WT Taekwondo (youth and adults)
  • ITF Taekwon-do (youth and adults)
  • Amateur boxing (youth and adults)
  • Kickboxing (youth up to and including 17 years old)
  • Karate (youth up to and including 13 years old)
  • Amateur Sanda/Sanshou (youth and adults)

Who is the XPRT Competitor Headgear intended for?

The XPRT Competitor is specially designed for the youngest children and is available in size XS. Children can train safely with it thanks to the thick padding on the chin, ears, and cheekbones and the lightweight construction that does not weigh the head down.

What is the benefit of good headgear?

Martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, boxing, kickboxing and MMA all involve a degree of contact with practitioners' heads. Wearing a good headgear in these martial arts is essential for the safety of the practitioner.

We especially want to emphasize that good headgear not only provides good protection, but also stays securely in place and does not get in the way!

Features of headgear:

  • Protection against head injuries
  • Eye protection
  • Increased confidence
  • Training without holding back
  • Contributes to a culture of safety (awareness of important protective equipment)

Why is headgear important for children in martial arts?

A headgear protects the vulnerable skull, ears, cheekbones, and chin of children from punches and kicks. Especially for growing children, the risk of injury is greater — good headgear minimizes this risk and gives parents and coaches confidence that children can safely sparren and train.

How do I know if headgear fits properly?

We usually do two things in our showroom:

  1. Quickly shake your head from side to side
  2. Tap all sides of the headgear. Preferably using a slightly sliding technique to create friction.

If the headgear barely moves or doesn’t move at all while not feeling too tight, you’ve got the right size!
