The SafeJawz mouthguards from the Ortho series provide full protection of the upper brace thanks to the patented Brace Harbour™.

This works together with the Lowerblok™, which protects the lips and the inside of the cheeks from the lower brace (if the wearer has one).

Brace Harbour™ creates space for the upper brace, reduces discomfort, and improves the "fit" of the mouthguard. The 'Brace Harbour' at the top fits snugly around your brackets, ensuring it stays securely in place.

Shock Doctor has special braces mouthguards that are suitable for use with braces. The materials of these mouthguards are of medical quality, which also explains the often somewhat higher price of these special Shock Doctor braces mouthguards.

A double mouthguard protects both the upper and lower teeth. They are especially suitable for people who need extra protection or for heavy contact sports.

The only (and major) disadvantage of a double mouthguard is that breathing becomes much more difficult. This is also the reason why you rarely see professional fighters wearing a double mouthguard during matches. 

There are usually 2 sizes for mouthguards:

• youth (up to about 11 years)
• adults (from 12 years)

Some brands label the box as up to 10 years, others 11 years, and yet others 12 years. There is no strict dividing line.

Sometimes mouthguards are "one-size". This is usually the case with brace mouthguards, and in that case, the mouthguard is suitable for all ages.

The best thing to do is to clean your mouthguard after each use. You do this by at least rinsing the Shock Doctor mouthguard with running water.

You do this to remove bacteria that can grow and spread in your mouthguard.

The best step-by-step plan to keep your mouthguard clean:

1. Rinse:
Rinse your mouthguard immediately after use under lukewarm water to remove food particles and saliva.

2. Clean:
Use a soft toothbrush and a special mouthguard cleaner to clean the mouthguard. 

3. Rinse thoroughly:
After cleaning, rinse the mouthguard well under running water to remove all residue. 

4. Dry:
Let the mouthguard dry completely in the air. It is best to do this in a clean, ventilated anti-microbial Protective case that is specially made for this purpose. 

5. Store:
Store the dry mouthguard in the specially designed anti-microbial Protective case, so it stays clean and hygienically fresh until the next training session.
