  • Take them out of your bag immediately after training.
  • Wipe the outside with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Use a deodorizer to help your boxing gloves dry faster and more thoroughly on the inside.
  • Store them in a cool, dry place with good natural ventilation.
  • If desired, use an antibacterial spray.
  • For leather boxing gloves: use leather grease/leather conditioner once a month to prevent cracking and drying out.

Voor ons 7-jarige zoontje die tenger is hebben wij de kinder bokshandschoenen XPRT Vision V2 Blue (6OZ) gekocht, met de scheenbeschermers XPRT Competitor V1 blauw (kous-model) maat XS. Voor de oudste zoon (9 jaar, maar groot en stevig) hebben we de kinder bokshandschoenen XPRT Camo V2 groen (10 oz) gekocht met de scheenbeschermers XPRT Competitor Camo V2 groen (kous-model) maat M. Levering en bestelling zijn vlot verlopen, het is goede kwaliteit, alles past perfect en het ziet er heel mooi uit. De jongens zijn superblij met hun nieuwe spullen!

Bij de eerste training is er door het vele stof aan de binnenkant de vinger van mijn dochter bekneld geraakt en kreeg ze de handschoen niet uit. De vinger werd pijnlijker en we hebben de bokshandschoen open moeten knippen om haar te bevrijden. Waardeloos dus.

What size boxing gloves does my child need?

Children usually train with 6 oz, 8 oz, or 10 oz boxing gloves. Very occasionally, for very young children, there are even 2 oz or 4 oz gloves.

The following are general guidelines. For each brand and model 

Choosing by age:

  • up to 3–4 years – 2 oz
  • up to 4–5 years – 4 oz
  • up to 6–8 years – 6 oz
  • up to 9–11 years – 8 oz
  • from 12 years – 10 oz

Choosing by body weight

  • up to 35 kg – 6 oz
  • 35 – 45 kg – 8 oz
  • 45 – 55 kg – 10 oz

We have also created unique size charts for this. Here you can check both age and weight. If in doubt, we recommend looking at weight rather than age.

The rule of thumb is: “the heavier the child in question, the heavier the boxing glove should be”. A heavier boxing glove generally has more padding and is therefore safer for the hands and the training partner. Trainers generally also prefer you to use heavier boxing gloves rather than lighter ones.

There is no specific age requirement. The youngest possible age is around 4, but most gyms use a minimum age of 7 or 8. Be sure to check with the gym where you want to take your child.

Are boxing gloves safe for children to use?

Yes.

Boxing gloves that fit well are certainly safe for children. Of course, several important factors are involved: the length and width of the hand compartment and the wrist closure. If these fit properly without being too tight, they are safe to use.

Do not buy kids boxing gloves that are too large either, because too much room means shifting, which is not good.

Can my child use boxing gloves for multiple combat sports?

Yes.

The child can certainly use the boxing gloves for multiple sports. Sports such as kickboxing naturally use boxing gloves, but a completely different self-defense sport such as Krav Maga also uses also boxing gloves. 

This of course does not apply to all martial arts, which is why we recommend asking the gym where you plan to enroll the child.
