Be honest: how well do you care for your shoes and other clothing or sports equipment? We all put our things in the washing machine, but unfortunately most people don't maintain their belongings very well.
And that's a shame! It's a consequence of our throw-away society and the habit of using (cheap) replaceable products. However, if you have nice things (a phone, car, watch or really nice boxing gloves), they deserve to be well protected and cared for.
We have very nice, good, and also expensive boxing gloves or other leather training equipment in our range, and you can enjoy them even longer if you take good care of them after purchase and use!
So why would you use leather grease?
It's very simple: if you go sunbathing, you probably use sunscreen. And maybe you use luxury skin cream anyway. Leather grease does the same for your gloves (or headgear) as that cream does for your own skin: it cares for your beautiful gloves.
- Prevents drying out: leather grease keeps leather supple and prevents it from drying out, becoming stiff and cracking.
- Water-repellent: leather grease makes your leather boxing gloves water-repellent, making them more resistant to external influences. The sweat of your opponents and training partners also has a (negative) effect on your boxing gloves, and leather grease simply protects your gloves that little bit better.
- In short: by properly maintaining the leather, it stays in better condition and your boxing gloves and other equipment will last much longer.
To use leather polish on, for example, your boxing gloves, first clean them thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. Then apply a small amount of leather polish with a soft cloth or soft sponge.
Rub this in and let it absorb properly (a few minutes to half an hour) . Then rub off the excess grease with a clean cloth. This will give you a supple and water-repellent result that protects the leather much better against drying out and cracking.
Summary of the greasing process:
- Cleaning with a product that is too greasy.
- Apply leather polish or lotion with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
- Allow to soak
- Wipe off any residue and clean with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
Here are a few more important, helpful tips from us:
If you're using leather grease, you don't apply it to the most prominent spot on your aunt's 100-year-old sofa. The same applies to your boxing gloves: first try it out on a small, inconspicuous spot to see if it affects the color.
You train regularly. So, take care of your gear regularly too. Follow the steps above, for example, once a month to keep your boxing gloves and gear in optimal condition.
Never leave your leather boxing gloves, shin guards, or headgear near a heater or radiator. This will severely damage the leather by drying it out. The same applies to leaving them in direct, hot sunlight.
Have fun playing sports! Keep on kicking!
