Best shin guards for kickboxing

We often get asked in our store what the best shin guards kickboxing are. There is no direct answer to that question.

Factors such as age, the number of times you train, and the intensity of the training are important. A shin guard aims to protect your shin and instep.

If you are starting with kickboxing, you may often experience discomfort in your shin. Your shin needs to get used to the impact of the kicks and blocks you make.

The nerves on the surface of your shin slowly die off so you feel less and less pain. However, if you stop training, these nerves become active again, and you will feel everything normally again.

However, you can’t just start kicking like crazy if you don’t feel anything anymore. For example, you could develop periostitis, and that’s no fun!

An ideal shin guard therefore provides enough protection but still lets you feel when you deliver a kick or block.

Best kickboxing shin guards for children

For children aged 5 to 8 years, we always recommend a sock-style shin guard. Children can put on this shin guard themselves, which is convenient for both parents and trainers. These shin guards stay firmly in place and almost never twist.

Children can move freely and participate well in training. This way, they can first learn the technique of kicking properly and later possibly switch to a slightly harder shin guard.

Shin guards Twins SGL7 Pure Black (black)

Best shin guards kickboxing for adults

The selection of kickboxing shin guards for adults is large. Prices range from €30 to €200. In short, there is a big price difference between the cheapest and the most expensive.

This certainly does not mean that the cheapest shin guard is not good! The cotton shin guard from XPRT is ideal, for example, for adults who train once a week and do few kicks.

It is also ideal for teenagers who are starting with kickboxing. The price is attractive, and you can still feel the impact of a kick well with this guard.

For adults who train 2 to 3 times a week, it is advisable to wear a pre-shaped shin guard. Besides extra comfort, you are simply better protected. You still have to show up at work and maybe take your children to school.

Almost 90% of what we sell is a pre-shaped shin guard, and these are always made of skintex, a super strong synthetic leather. Men and women can all wear the same shin guards; these are unisex.

Our preferences

We really find the SGL-7 from Twins Special a fantastic shin guard. It is light, nicely shaped, and proven to last a very long time. This model has been a favorite for years and is, of course, made in Thailand.

If you want a slightly more affordable choice, we really recommend the V3 Midnight from XPRT. Sturdy, light, and reasonably priced.

If you have stronger lower legs, both the King SG models and the Hayabusa T3 are excellent for you. These are both substantial shin guards that offer a lot of protection.
