During the time of closed gyms and limited activities, we have learned that it can be a lot of fun to train outside, especially with the nice weather lately. Of course we can all walk, cycle, run and so on, but as a martial artist you sometimes want something different. Naturally, adhere to the imposed rules of the RIVM and only train with your partner, children or housemates with sufficient distance from each other. Starting with a walking workout and some light stretching exercises is of course fine, but immediately throw some pads , skipping ropes , a medicine ball and preferably a large kicking pad in your sports bag and take it with you.
Training with hand pads
Padding is wonderful and you can do it together at a sufficient distance. You can use the affordable hand pads with children and beginners, but for adults we recommend spending a little more on slightly more durable hand pads. You will really enjoy this for many times longer. We recommend that you take the Booster BPM2 pads . These are really nice! You can have a lot of fun with the small focus pads, so the investment will be recouped in no time. And let's face it... otherwise we're living pretty frugally at the moment.
Very pleasant and also very good for training are ' focus pads ', small (often round) kicking pads with which numerous exercises and techniques can be practiced. The larger kicking pads are also useful, which are especially useful for children, beginners or when training powerful techniques.

A large stair cushion is a real treat. Have fun with low kicks, front kicks, side kicks and round kicks. And why not, also practice those more difficult backward spinning kicks and 360 degree kicks. You can also use the stair cushion as an additional training tool during warm-up and training. Place the cushion flat on the ground and use it as an obstacle to jump over forwards and sideways. It also serves as a bench that we normally have in the gym. These jumps will help you improve your fitness and jumping power enormously. Your legs will start to sour nicely.
In addition to cushioning (hard) kicks, you can use the kicking cushion for many other exercises: hold the cushion at chest height (and go higher) and jump up with both feet at the same time and pull your knees up so that you tap the cushion. As you do this more often, you will notice that your leg strength, volume and jumping power increase enormously.
Do you want more play in your training with children (or big men, it doesn't matter ;) )? Use the pillow as a ram or push cushion to push daddy or that big strong partner away in rugby style. In short, there are plenty of variations to come up with, with a little creativity, for a fun outdoor training with a large kicking pad.

Would you like to work more specifically on your footwork or avoiding techniques through body movement (bobbing and weaving)? Stretch a cord (or long budo strap) between 2 poles, trees or hold it between the two of you at shoulder height. Stand in a fighting position at the beginning of the rope and slowly move forward to the opposite side while continuously moving under the rope 'bobbing & weaving' style with your eyes looking forward. And for the martial artists among us, now is also a great time to perfect those breaking techniques with our rebreakable plastic breaking boards of different thicknesses.
For very avid martial artists, we also have different stair cords and fitness bands to make training your legs and buttocks really challenging. Use these around your ankles during your training and you will come out of your training regimen looking like a real beast!

Nowadays, in addition to the traditional punching bags, there are also 'dummies' on the market. These are punching dolls on a base filled with sand or water. The advantage of these dummies and/or a punching bag lies in the fact that someone can always train without a partner. Moreover, one can perform techniques as hard as one wishes without injuring someone else. These are of such quality that you can easily place them in your garden and, if you can afford it, you can go all out on them. Jumping rope, abdominal exercises and the like are of course also easy to do, so we don't have to use this crisis as an excuse to get out of shape. Osu, Ush, Taekwon and trainze!
